December 12th, 2009 — audience, brand awareness, customer base, public relations, search engine
Currently, one of the best ways to reach out to your customer base is through the use of a corporate blog. When it comes to getting that personal touch just right and humanizing your company, there is no better tool than a blog done well. Let’s take a look at just a few of the benefits that a corporate blog can bring your company.
1. Greater Discoverability
Static pages such as you find on a regular site are not very discoverable when it comes to search engine traffic. If you’re in a very tight niche, it can be difficult to get your pages up to the top of the search engine results. When you have a corporate blog, you’re boosting that discoverability for the following reasons. First, you have more content that is added to on a regular basis. Search engines start spidering your site more often and the result is that you have a higher ranking in search results.
Second, you’ll be covering several different topics that readers of all kinds will be interested in. The more you write about the better your chances are of having new customers stumble upon your blog and as such, your company.
2. The Human Touch
Many consumers view corporations are being soulless and run by a bunch of drones. A corporate blog that is done well will create that human element and help consumers see that your business is run by real people. This builds a stronger level of trust and your readers begin to develop a relationship with you via this blog. Over time, this can lead to a fan base as well as regular visitors and much more traffic.
3. Better Brand Awareness
Part of the key to building a strong brand is having that instant name recognition. When you have a corporate blog, you’ll be exposed to an entirely new audience. Your fans will begin to associate your company with openness and they will begin to recognize not only your name but your brand as well. There is no better tool for quickly building up your company’s brand.
This is not to say that corporate blogging is easy. In many cases, it may be beneficial to outsource the management of your blog to a trained professional that is capable to assisting you with SEO as well as pertinent advice on how to avoid common blogging pitfalls. By having a professional company guide you on your path towards corporate blogging the successful way you can be assured that you can avoid not only these pitfalls but that your blog will be able to accomplish all of the points mentioned above as well as many other benefits.
Blogging is an exciting new horizon for many companies and while it isn’t foolproof, with the right team, you can make a big difference in your company’s popularity. It’s definitely a balance, but with the right elements, you can have a very successful corporate blog that gets noticed.

There are three different primary considerations to make when it comes to naming your corporate blog. You cannot simply choose a name that you prefer, if it is not relevant to your business or attractive to your prospective readers. Likewise, you cannot choose a name for your corporate blog that is attractive to your prospective readers but that is not relevant to your company or that will not be easy to find in search engines or through word of mouth. Here are the three most basic characteristics that your corporate blog’s new name should follow.
- When choosing a name for your corporate blog, you should choose a name that you enjoy.
If you like your blog and feel comfortable writing in it, then you will almost certainly write more often. Because the more you write, the more successful your blog will be, it is absolutely vital that your blog be a comfortable and productive destination for you to write in. When choosing a name for your corporate blog, you are going to want to select a name that resonates with you, in order to keep you writing for a good long time.
- When choosing a name for your corporate blog, you should choose a name that is relevant to and attractive for your readers.
Fun blog names, interesting blog names and otherwise attractive blog names are the blogs that attract the most traffic. “My corporate blog” is not a blog name that is going to inspire people to come and visit, to keep reading, or to pass a link to your blog on to their friends, family and colleagues. By making your blog more attractive by giving it a good name, you are inviting interested parties to come and check it out.
- When choosing a name for your corporate blog, you should choose a name that makes your blog easy to find and also offers relevancy to search engines by utilizing important keywords.
The name of your blog is what will appear in the title of your search engine results. The name of your blog is going to have an impact on your search engine results. If you can, implement your most important keyword into the title of your blog. This way, every time someone references your blog they will be doing so by mentioning your most important keyword. Careful consideration is definitely needed to make sure that you have a productive corporate blog name, at least if you are serious about attracting visitors to your blog.
All three of these considerations are important if you want your corporate blog to stand out. While your content is the most important part of your blog, having a solid name is definitely important. Your corporate blog name should be keyword driven, reader friendly and also motivating to you if you want a reason to keep writing in your corporate blog. Once you choose a good name and website address for your blog, you will definitely be in business and will see an increase in visitors to your website.

October 21st, 2009 — blog design, content, google page rank, keywords, links, post design, search engine, social bookmarking sites, statistics, web traffic
Spend a few weeks reading about search engine optimization and you’ll likely become obsessed with your Google page rank score. If you’re not familiar with this, it is a system employed by Google that determines the popularity of a site and then assigns a ranking to it. Many factors are used in calculating popularity, but generally, the amount of links, the frequency of new content additions and the overall traffic a site receives will have a major bearing on their Google page rank.
But does this really matter to your corporate blog?
The answer is yes and no, and it pretty much depends on how you look at it. While a low ranking can make it harder to get a good search engine results placement, it doesn’t make it impossible. However, if you are trying to take advantage of all of your promotional avenues, trying to raise your Google page rank is pretty important.
So, here are some easy tips that can dramatically affect your page rank score and as such, where you are ranked in search results.
1. Increase the amount of links coming in to your site.
These are called inbound links, but not just any links will work. You’ve got to have “quality” links that Google will approve of. This means that submitting to link directories or using black hat linking methods will not help you much. You need to increase the amount of real pages that link to you. You can do this the old fashioned way by contacting site owners to exchange links, or you can do it on your own by leaving your link in comment’s on blogs, sending out press releases and encouraging readers to link to your blog.
2. Page titles really do matter.
This is a huge factor in your overall Google page rank. You’ll want to make sure that you are using keyword rich post titles for every blog that you write. For example, Company News is a bad title for a blog post. You would want to use something like Company Name – Keyword and then News. Try to experiement with different blog titles, making them keyword rich but still useful for your readers.
3. Using keywords in your posts.
Every post you make needs to have keywords in it, but you don’t want to go overboard. Stick with mentioning your primary keywords two to three times, unless your posts are very long. The best density is around 3 to 4%.
If you are curious to see how your efforts are paying off, we recommend installing the Google toolbar which will contain your current page rank when you visit your own site. You can keep track of your progress this way and see how well you are doing. It won’t happen overnight, but these tips will help you improve your overall page rank and as such, your search engine rankings, blog discoverability and the overall popularity of your site.

October 15th, 2009 — Buildify, blogosphere, content, engaging ideas, news
No two blogs are created equally, and for that reason, corporate blogs all touch on different subjects and different stories. Some people who write in corporate blogs wonder if covering external stories is a good idea or a bad idea. Some people shy away from the idea simply because they are not clear on the matter, while others attempt it even if they do not know if it is a good thing to do or not. The truth about covering external stories is that as long as the story is relevant to the subject of the blog, and the content is rewritten to suit your blog or credited back to the original writer, there is nothing wrong with covering external stories in your corporate blog.
There is only so much corporate blog content that you can create based on your own company. You can talk about a lot of company related information, or focus on information relating to the industry that your company sits in, but still you will eventually run out of content to write about, because as much information as there is out there, there is not an infinite amount of ideas to capitalize on. This is why it is important for many corporate bloggers to explore the idea of covering external stories in their blogs. External stories may be drawn from other blogs, from websites, from newspapers and from numerous other sources.
The trick when it comes to external stories is giving credit where credit is due in your corporate blog. If you want to write about stories that have already been released on the internet, then what you need to do is give credit to the original writer, even if you post a completely unique version of the same story online in your very own words. When touching on external stories in your corporate blog, you should choose to write a unique version because it will make you stand out in search engine results, but you should also provide a link or a track back to the original writer to give them credit for the content, the news story, the idea, or whatever else you drew from in order to get your blog entry.
Coming up with unique content for your corporate blog is not always going to be easy. There is nothing wrong with looking for inspiration in other blogs and on other websites, as long as you meet a couple of conditions. First of all, you need to make sure that you are writing unique content so that search engines do not penalize you for duplicating content that was found elsewhere on the internet. If you found the content you are referencing through a search engine, then they will surely notice that yours is a copy. You also want to make sure to reference the original writer with a link or a track back to give credit for the content that you used. Finally, you should make sure only to cover external stories that are actually relevant to your corporate blog and the subjects that you write about in it. If you find content elsewhere on the net that is relevant to your blog, feel free to talk about it in your blog, just do so in a unique way if you want to garner traffic from your post.
