Ad Revenue From Corporate Blogs

Ads on your blog should enhance and not detract from reading. Many companies don’t consider the fact that they could actually make money from their blogs. The popularity of online advertising has made it easy to include ads from all over the world, and Google Ads in particular make it very easy to target your readers with advertisements that they will be interested in. While it can be very fruitful to include ads on your corporate blog, there are a few considerations you should be aware of before you take that step.

1. Always make sure that you can filter the ads.

The main problem with banner networks is that some of the ads are highly inappropriate for certain audiences. You may not want your company associated with the latest ads for male enhancement – and this happens a lot. It is vital to choose an ad service that will allow you to filter out the type of advertising that you do not want. Be advised however that these filters do not always work. You may need to add actual sites to a list to make sure that their ads do not appear on your site. It is best to monitor the ads that appear on your site as much as possible to avoid getting stuck with reader complaints and a bad public image.

2. Beware your competitors.

The popularity of online advertising means that it is highly likely that your competitors are using it. You don’t want to promote their sites, but if you are using PPC ads that are keyword based, the chances of this happening are very high. Make sure that you collect the URL’s for all of your competitors and then choose a PPC service that will allow you to block ads from that domain. You don’t want to shoot yourself in the foot by promoting another company. This is a frequent problem that affects companies in many different sectors.

3. Do the ads enhance your site or take away from the content?

The whole point of having a corporate blog is to get people to read it. Are the ads going to make them leave your site? While extra revenue is nice, is it worth the risk that your readers are going to click on the ads and as such, leave your blog? This is a consideration that should be weighed heavily before moving forward. Secondly, it is important to make sure that your ads do not diminish your content or make it look badly. Work on ad placement that integrates well with your blog design, and is not terribly prominent.

Having ads on your corporate blog is a bit of a double edged sword. When used properly they can create extra revenue. However, you should always weigh the premise of a two cent click versus a potential sale. If your ads are harming your business, there is just no point in having them. If you do go with advertising, make sure that it is professional and that you do not rely too heavily on it.

Corporate Blogging Goes Mainstream

If you were one of the early adopters of corporate blogging, or if you are on the fence about whether or not it is a solid form or promotion, recent statistics show that more companies than ever are getting their feet wet and beginning to take blogging seriously. What does this mean for the small business blogger or those that are trying to dominate their niche? There has never been a better time to get established and to do it quickly.

Although market flooding is certainly a long way off in the future, as corporate blogging becomes more acceptable, it is only a matter of time before the majority of big name companies give it a try. While all will not be successful, they have the power of promotion behind them that the little guys do not. This doesn’t mean that you should give up however, in fact, this should be the impetus you need to get your blog started today, not tomorrow.

Why is corporate blogging going mainstream?

Many believe that this is due to the fact that it is a powerful medium, at least when utilized correctly. There are plenty of disaster stories out there of corporate blogs gone bad, but there are far more success stories that are fueling the fire. Even some of the oldest companies in the world are now trying their hands at corporate blogging and it is paying off generously.

One of the main reasons that corporate blogging is so effective, and is growing in popularity so quickly is that it gives companies the rare opportunity to personally reach out to their customers and grow their businesses. While overt pitches and shady dealings are quickly discovered, it’s the solid blog owners, that keep posting every day and giving quality information are rising to the top.

Dominating a niche is important no matter what business you’re in, and a corporate blog can accomplish this in many different ways. First and foremost, from an SEO point of view, you are creating hundreds of pages of optimized content that can be indexed and ranked. If you do this correctly, you can easily dominate the first few pages of results for your keywords.

You can also dominate a niche by establishing your company as the authority, before your competitors do. We highly recommend that business owners do some research into what their competitors are doing. If they aren’t blogging yet, that is the perfect time to reach out and grab an audience before someone else does. There are millions of blogs out there, and more are created every day, and for those that don’t want to get swept under the carpet, taking the time to establish that authority now will definitely pay off in the future.

The face of corporate blogging will continue to evolve and change, but for now, it is clear that it is going mainstream and before long, the majority of companies will be taking advantage of it in one way or another.

Developing Your Blog’s Style

Write how you\'re comfortable writing. Why do some blog instantly become hits, while others languish without a reader to be found? Although the subject matter can play a big role in popularity, a lack of readership can be attributed to a lack of style in the blog. Since there is so much competition out there, you’ve got to work on creating a special hook that will keep your reader’s interested. This is the key to developing a corporate blog that will get noticed. Here are some tips on how to pick the right style hook for your blog.

1. The Funny Hook –

If you are a naturally humorous person, don’t be afraid to let your sense of humor shine through your posts. Granted, this is not the place to share off color jokes, but if you have a talent for wry, dry or witty writing, your blog can be a great outlet. If you can make people laugh while they are reading a corporate blog, that is a big accomplishment. Readers remember funny blogs right off the bat and they’ll want to return often to make sure they get their daily dose of funny. However, if you do not have a flare for comedy, this is not the best hook to use. The key is knowing whether or not you have the talent for being truly humorous. If not, there are plenty of other hooks that you can use.

2. The Newsy Hook –

This is the perfect hook for those that may have a drier writing style or for those that don’t feel comfortable cracking jokes all the time. If you have the time to spend monitoring news and breaking it on your corporate blog, you can develop a very devoted readership. It’s best to stick with news that is related to your corporate sector, but there may be times when you can push the envelope a little bit. Many blogs have taken off after they covered one item that was very popular. The readers will stick around if they like your style and the information you cover.

3. The Controversial Hook –

This hook should be used with care and only by those that are masters of PR and capable of handling controversy. The blogs that use this hook are probably the most popular, but there is a fine line to walk here. If you are worried about your company getting dragged through the mud, or if you have a board that you have to please, it’s best not to use this hook.

These are just a few examples of hooks that you can use to start creating that relationship with your readers. If none of them fit, then just let your personality shine through your posts. Being friendly and open can be a hook on its own and may actually create better results than all three of the above hooks combined. The secret is finding what works for you and your readers. Once you’ve got that down, the sky is the limit.

Blogging Advice for Small Business

qaAre you a small business owner, and looking to generate more business through an online internet presence? If you have been considering putting together a blog for your business, the blogging advice detailed below is intended especially for you.

Q: What should I be writing blog entries about?

A: This is one of the first questions that gets asked by small business owners who are curious about the blogosphere. The best advice that you can take when it comes to learning what to write about is to specifically write about any topic that meets two criteria:

a) It should interest you.

b) It should be related to your business in some way.

This may seem rather obvious to some people, but you might be surprised at how many bloggers choose the wrong topics and ideas for their blogs. If you do not choose a topic that is going to interest you, then you will be much more likely to fall behind on the blogging schedule that you need to maintain in order to attract traffic to your blog. If you choose a topic that is not related in some way to your business, then you will be defeating the whole purpose of blogging for your business in the first place.

Q: How often should I be writing and publishing blog entries?

A: Truth be told, the right answer to this one is: As often as you can. As long as you are not neglecting other aspects of your company, you should blog as often as is feasible. The benefits of blogging for your business tend to be rather cumulative in nature. All the things that your blog will do for you, including search engine visibility, buzz, popularity and traffic levels all come over time rather than at once. The best advice here then, obviously, is to blog as often as is possible, be it once a day, once a week, three times a week, or several times a day depending on what you have to say and how often it needs to be said. Choose a schedule that works for you and run with it for the best results.

Q: How should I organize the topics for my blog?

A: It is generally a best practice to limit how many categories you have, which will keep readers from becoming overwhelmed. Choose a handful of categories that you will write about and make sure that all of your blog posts fall under one of these categories, allowing readers to better search for and find the blog entries that you have written in the past. You can write blogs to fit into any category that you can think of; You should try to be broad when choosing organizational categories, so that you do not end up with blog entries that you do not know how to file.

With this small business blogging advice, you should be ready to start your own small business corporate blog to build a successful web presence online.

Does Your Google Page Rank Really Affect Your Corporate Blog?

What\'s your Google page rank?Spend a few weeks reading about search engine optimization and you’ll likely become obsessed with your Google page rank score. If you’re not familiar with this, it is a system employed by Google that determines the popularity of a site and then assigns a ranking to it. Many factors are used in calculating popularity, but generally, the amount of links, the frequency of new content additions and the overall traffic a site receives will have a major bearing on their Google page rank.

But does this really matter to your corporate blog?

The answer is yes and no, and it pretty much depends on how you look at it. While a low ranking can make it harder to get a good search engine results placement, it doesn’t make it impossible. However, if you are trying to take advantage of all of your promotional avenues, trying to raise your Google page rank is pretty important.

So, here are some easy tips that can dramatically affect your page rank score and as such, where you are ranked in search results.

1. Increase the amount of links coming in to your site.

These are called inbound links, but not just any links will work. You’ve got to have “quality” links that Google will approve of. This means that submitting to link directories or using black hat linking methods will not help you much. You need to increase the amount of real pages that link to you. You can do this the old fashioned way by contacting site owners to exchange links, or you can do it on your own by leaving your link in comment’s on blogs, sending out press releases and encouraging readers to link to your blog.

2. Page titles really do matter.

This is a huge factor in your overall Google page rank. You’ll want to make sure that you are using keyword rich post titles for every blog that you write. For example, Company News is a bad title for a blog post. You would want to use something like Company Name – Keyword and then News. Try to experiement with different blog titles, making them keyword rich but still useful for your readers.

3. Using keywords in your posts.

Every post you make needs to have keywords in it, but you don’t want to go overboard. Stick with mentioning your primary keywords two to three times, unless your posts are very long. The best density is around 3 to 4%.

If you are curious to see how your efforts are paying off, we recommend installing the Google toolbar which will contain your current page rank when you visit your own site. You can keep track of your progress this way and see how well you are doing. It won’t happen overnight, but these tips will help you improve your overall page rank and as such, your search engine rankings, blog discoverability and the overall popularity of your site.

How do Backlinks Help Your Corporate Blog?

Most people understand the basics when it comes to blogging or corporate blogging, but unless you have been trained in SEO, you probably do not understand what goes on behind the scenes. For example, are you aware of how backlinks are vital to the success of your corporate blog? If you are wondering how backlinks are going to benefit your corporate blog, and more importantly, how you can get the most out of them, keep reading:

The first thing that you need to understand is what a back link is. Any time a link is created to your corporate blog from another blog or website, you have a back link. Google and other search engines look at these back links as a testament to the effectiveness of your blog, because if other websites and blogs are linking to yours, then yours must have value of some sort. In other words, if you want your blog to build up popularity in the highest ranking search engines, you need to find ways to have links created to your blog from other places across the internet.

There are essentially a couple of different ways to create back links to your website, all of which can benefit your corporate blog.

1 – Link exchanges build back links.

Strike deals with other bloggers in your niche or industry. If you link to them in your blog or on your website, they will link to you in exchange. The more popular their websites are the more important and vital these links will be.

2 – Link to your own blog entries elsewhere.

Comment in other blogs in your industry and post a link back to your blog. Submit articles to submission sites with a link back to your blog. The more links that you create that point back to your blog, the higher your search engine page rank is going to be when Google finds these links and then connects them back to your website.

3 – Create links to your blog from your website, and then to your blog from your website.

Every link to your blog is a valuable back link, even though some back links are not as valuable as other. Google and other search engines do actually count how many links are pointing to your website as a reference for how popular your website is, and how valuable your content is. When Google sees a large number of links pointing to your corporate blog, especially when they come from a wide variety of different websites, that is how the search engine will know that your corporate blog is providing high quality content that offers value to other people on the internet.

4 – By offering valuable content, other readers and bloggers will naturally find and link to your content.

The more value you provide, the more other bloggers will want to talk about your blog.

In other words, if you want search engines to acknowledge that your corporate blog offers value, you need to build back links.

Corporate Blogging Link Building Strategies

Answer questions at Yahoo Answers. An important part of promoting your corporate blog is making sure that you have plenty of good inbound links coming into your site. This can help increase your overall popularity, as well as how search engines rank your site. While there are some methods of building links that promise the moon, they are generally considered as bad links by search engines and they should be avoided.

So, how do you go about getting quality inbound links for your site? There are few techniques that you can use that will dramatically impact your site’s links, but they will take some work. It is important to remember that you’re not going to see instant results, but over time, these link building strategies will work.

The first step is to create content that people will want to link to. This means posting breaking news, funny lists and other content that is generally referred to as “Linkbait.” Once you start publishing content like this however, you’ll have to take one more step to get results. This means submitting that post to sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com and other social bookmarking/news sites. You may need to try a few different posts to see which ones get the most results. When in doubt, pay attention to the posts on these sites that make the front page and see how you can implement the same techniques.

Next, you’ll need to start submitting content to other sites. While you’ll want to stay away from most article submission sites, EzineArticles.com generally gets some pretty good results. Make sure that you include your blog’s link at the bottom of the article. Pages like this are generally ranked very well by search engines, so this will be seen as a “quality link.”

Another key is publishing content that people want to read, content that affects them on an emotional level. They will be much more likely to link to you and share your content if you can do this. One of the biggest mistakes a corporate blogger can make is being too “corporate.” No one really wants to read boring posts that do not affect them personally. Find a topic that is suited to your blog that will produce an emotional response in readers.

Memes are another great way of getting links, but results will vary. Techmeme.com is a good example of one of these sites. There are hundreds out there, but you’ll want to focus on the most popular ones. Submit your site and try to be the first to break news on an important subject. You’ll likely get many links as a result.

One technique that is little used is to submit answers to discussion groups/Yahoo Answers and other sites where users try to find information. Make sure to include your site’s link at the bottom of your answer if you do try this and always remember that what you say could affect your company down the road. When used properly however, this is a great way to get a lot of easy links back to your site.
