February 14th, 2010 — RSS Feed, advertisment, content, keywords, links, ping, search engine, web traffic
In many people’s opinion, organic traffic is the best. It’s free, it’s targeted and nine times out of ten, you’ll get a much better response, whether it’s for a company promotion, getting readers to your blog and building up solid relationships. Let’s take a look at just a few easy ways that you can start taking advantage of organic traffic and visitors, right now.
The first step is to make sure that your blog is fully optimized. One of the best platforms for quick indexing is WordPress, but depending on your content, it may not work quite well enough for you. Once you have your SEO portion of your campaign completed, you will need to keep going, making small changes, testing conversion rates and seeing just how much traffic your efforts are bringing in.
This optimization should extend not only to your content, but also to your post titles, headers, image alt-links, and literally everything else on your site. If you want a lot of organic traffic and you are in a competitive niche, you’ll need to go all out to make sure that you are getting the results you want.
Now, once you have your corporate blog fully optimized, it’s time to think about what you are actually going to be writing and whether or not it will help you increase the amount of organic visitors to your site. While placing keywords in your post is important, it should never outweigh good content that people can actually use, learn from and connect with.
Good content gets around, and that means more organic visitors for you. Word of mouth is still one of the most popular and profitable forms of advertising and there is no reason that your corporate blog cannot benefit. Since you’re not paying for these visitors through PPC ads or other means, you’re getting a chance to actually develop a relationship with your visitors and that all important motivation to keep going.
Promote your RSS feed. One of the easiest ways to get backlinks to your site, and to increase awareness about your products is through an RSS feed. Whenever you post on your corporate blog, take the time to ping your feed using a service like Pingomatic, or Pingoat. These will submit your RSS feed to numerous places and you can easily start to see results right away. As a bonus, indexed RSS content can be picked up by search engine spiders very quickly.
So, now you have your corporate blog optimized, you’re starting to develop relationships with your readers and you are getting your feet wet with RSS promotion. It may take a few tries to get results, but if you can stick with it, chances are you’ll start to notice a big increase in the amount of your daily traffic.
Try a few methods today to help you get more organic visitors and see how well the techniques work for you. With a little hard work, and smart promotional tips, you can get noticed by your audience.

December 27th, 2009 — blog design, content, goals, money, networking, public relations
Every week, new corporate blogs spring into existence, but many are doomed to fail from the start. How can you be assured that your blog is going to be a success? Follow in the footsteps of the leaders and learn from their mistakes! There are three main secrets to successful corporate blogging, that any business owner can implement. They are easy to follow and you’ll be able to start seeing the benefits right away.
1. Be Original.
This can be broken down into three main sub categories: Design, Content and Promotion. Let’s look at the first one, design. There are thousands upon thousands of free themes out there for most blogging platforms. That doesn’t mean that you should be using one. When you’re running a corporate blog, you don’t want to have the same theme as some crazy teenager that’s a little bit emo and a whole lot desperate. It gives the wrong impression. Spend the money to have a theme designed for you that is original.
Next, let’s look at content. Sure, it’s easy to lift content or use snippets of other articles that have already been published. But why would anyone want to read that? You’ve got to put yourself in your reader’s shoes. You may be busy and a blog post may be the last thing on your mind, but you’ve got to take that time to write an original post. It will pay off. Lastly, promotion. You’ve got to find an original way to get your site noticed. This means using social networking, PPC ads and having a great campaign that will get the attention of readers.
2. Be Prolific.
The best blogs are the ones that publish every day, and in many cases, more than once a day. Frequent publishing has many benefits. First, you’re giving your readers an excuse to come back more than once and to visit every single day. Second, you’re building more opportunities for search engine indexing. The best corporate bloggers take the time to really knuckle down and commit to producing lots of original content every single day. It does pay off.
3. Be social.
Today’s online world is social and if you’re not taking part, you’re missing out. Encourage comments on your blog, talk to your readers, not at them. There are many little ways that you can be social on your blog. We’re not saying drop that veneer of professionalism, but you’ve got to find a way to reach out to them. Remember their names, use social networking sites, leave comments on other blogs. These are just a few ways that you can be social and increase your readership.
If you’re not comfortable commenting on another blog, mention one of their more interesting posts. Chances are they’ll be thankful for the publicity and they’ll return the favor. This is an easy way to build up your blog’s readership and make some great contacts in the blogging world. Corporate blogging is a great tool, especially when it is utilized the right way.

October 8th, 2009 — Buildify, platform
Have you spent any time looking at blogging publication platforms? You have probably already become well aware of the fact that there are numerous to choose from. Some of the most notable blogging platforms that you can choose from include WordPress, Blogger, Text Pattern, Blog Lines, Moveable Type, Life Type, Serendipity and Flat Press.
All of these blog platforms offer a certain level of ease of use and versatility, but the best choice for most cases is WordPress. Word Press is considered to be the best choice for setting up a blog because it offers functionality, versatility and incredible potential for generating income. Even if you’re simply looking to blog without making any money, WordPress is still by far the best blogging platform that you can use.
Most bloggers avoid using WordPress because they have the wrong idea about it. They either believe that it is too difficult for them to set up, or they believe that it is too expensive for them to operate. Both of these reasons are complete but common misconceptions, however.
1 – WordPress is not too difficult to set up, though at first it may seem a little daunting.
This is especially true if you have never used an FTP program before, or if you know very little about coding or scripts. However, the difficulty associated with installing WordPress is actually directly linked to who hosts your WordPress blog for you. With many hosts, such as GoDaddy.com for example, setting up a WordPress blog is as easy as pushing a couple of buttons.
2 – WordPress is a free program, but setting up a good blog and maintaining it can cost a little bit of money.
Still, the cost associated with setting up and maintaining a WordPress blog is not expensive. For examine, setting up a .info domain only costs $1.15 a year, and you can get a basic hosting package for only $5 per month. You can have a lot of blogs hosted in one hosting plan, so the costs really don’t add up when you think about the rewards.
In reality, WordPress is both easy to set up and inexpensive to own and operate, providing that you choose the right hosting provider. If you want to blog because monetizing your website is a concern, then using a WordPress blog is ideal because you own your own content, you can customize your blog with a myriad of widgets, you can easily convert your WordPress blog into a website, and there are a myriad of other details that make WordPress the best option. In other words, if you want to choose a high quality blogging platform that will give you functionality and versatility without a lot of cost, WordPress is an excellent way to go even though many people assume that it is more complicated or more costly than it actually is.

If you are publishing a corporate blog that has an RSS feed, and you should be, it is important to use a service that will allow you to enhance that feed and learn from it. One of the best services out there for this is Feedburner, and it can make a big difference in the way that you publish your content, and what you learn from it. Let’s take a look at just a few of the benefits that using this service can bring your corporate blog.
1. True estimate of readership.
Although your blog may have the ability to track page views, this really is not an accurate estimate of your readership. With Feedburner, you will be able to see how many people are clicking on feed links, which stories they are reading and how many subscribers you have. Tracking data is supplied on a daily basis and there are options to enhance the kind of information that is provided. When you first start your corporate blog, this is a very nice feature to have since it allows you to see if the time you are spending is worth it in terms of how quickly you gain readership.
2. One permanent feed address.
Perhaps the best benefit of using a service like Feedburner is that you get an RSS URL that will never change. Once you pick your Feedburner URL, you can redirect any of your own URL’s to it, so that your readers only have to subscribe to your feed once. If you change blogging platforms, or if you change the RSS feed, this will never actually affect your readers. This is very vital for companies since it is possible to lose hundreds of readers with one feed address change.
3. Gauging what posts work and which ones don’t.
With Feedburner, you will be able to see which particular posts are garnering the most interest. This is data that you can really use. By paying attention to these statistics, you can start publishing information that your readers want to read – and that is how blogs become successful. Sure, you may adore writing about a certain topic, but if your readers aren’t feeling it, you’re wasting your time. Use these stats to help you figure out which direction your blog needs to go in terms of the type of content you are publishing.
4. The software your readers are using.
Most blog readers use an aggregator to deliver their news, and there are many choices out there. Feedburner lets you see which ones your readers are using, and this can be beneficial when it comes to formatting and making sure that your blog is displaying properly. It can also let you know how many readers are actually just going to your website to get the blog and how many are actively using a feed to get there. This is useful information that you can use to shape the way that you publish your blog and the way your blog is designed.

July 11th, 2009 — blog design, platform
There is a lot of controversy over which blogging platform is ideal for corporate blogs. With so many schools of thought on the matter, it can be difficult to figure out which one you should be using. We have two main favorites, Blogger and Wordpress, and both are very well suited to corporate blogging.
The two main benefits of both of these platforms is that they are incredibly easy to use, and incredibly search engine friendly. That solves a lot of problems right there. While we typically don’t recommend free services for corporate blogging, now that Blogger allows you to attach your own URL to your Blogger account, they’ve moved up in our estimation.
Basically, if you don’t want to go through the trouble of using server space for your corporate blog and you need a publishing platform that is literally idiot proof, then Blogger is ideal. It has many of the same features as Wordpress, and since it is owned by Google, you’ll have a pretty good chance of getting a good ranking as long as you keep publishing quality content.
For corporate blog owners that need a little more control, Wordpress is our natural favorite. There are thousands of customization options that are available and it is very easy to get started. With the right plugins, you can make a very advanced site without breaking a sweat, and you’ll be optimizing your content at the same time.
While there are other platforms that work well for corporate blogs, we really prefer Wordpress for two main reasons:
1. Smaller learning curve.
Wordpress takes less than five minutes to install, even if you have no prior experience. Everything is spelled out for you in the dashboard for your site and publishing is incredibly easy. With the right configuration you can easily build a very popular corporate blog without any effort.
2. More options for optimization.
There are thousands of plugins for Wordpress that are designed to help you manage comments, optimize your content, take advantage of SEO trends, and keep everything running smoothly. These are all easy to install and use and most require very little interaction on your part.
The bottom line is that not everyone can afford to hire a web designer or programmer. Either one of these solutions is absolutely free to use and in most cases, they are more capable than the platforms that actually do cost money. For those that need to get a quick start and do not have the time to learn HTML, PHP coding and basic blogging set-up, you can’t go wrong with either of these platforms.
Try setting up a sample account on Blogger, or install Wordpress on your own server and play around with them for a few minutes. Chances are you’ll be able to get the hang of it immediately and you will be well on your way to becoming the owner of a successful corporate blog that is completely tricked out and reader friendly.

July 4th, 2009 — RSS Feed, goals, planning, platform, web traffic
One of the best ways for a company to reach out to their customers and build a strong brand is corporate blogging. However, there are a lot of misconceptions out there and a lot of room for error. Let’s take a look at some techniques that you can use to make sure that your corporate blogging experience goes smoothly.
1. Hire the right person for the job.
Unless you have someone on your team that is familiar with how blogging works and how to handle themselves under pressure, you may want to consider hiring a professional to manage your blog for you. This is the best solution for most companies, especially since they may not have enough resources to devote to running a blog. The person that you select to run your blog should be professional but personable and they should always display grace under fire. If you don’t have anyone that fits that description, you will definitely need to get some help with blog management.
2. Use the right tools.
There are numerous blogging platforms out there that make it so much easier to run a corporate blog. However, they are not all created equal. While many companies resort to using free blog management tools, this can give the wrong impression. It is best to host your blog on your own site for several reasons. First, you’re going to want to get as much traffic to your site as possible. Using a third part blogging application does not accomplish this. Next, you don’t want to give your readers the impression that you’re too cheap to run your own blog.
There are several blogging applications that can be installed on your own server. Most are free and can be easily customized to fit your specifications. This is a much better choice and you’ll have more control over the environment.
3. Make sure you have an RSS feed ready to go.
If you are trying to run a blog without the benefit of a blogging application, you’re going to need to make sure that you have a way of syndicating your posts. Today’s blog readers rely heavily on newsreaders and RSS feeds to let them know when their favorite blogs have added new posts. If you are not using an RSS feed, you’re missing out on this enormous market.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it works by sending out a snippet of your posts to those that have subscribed to your feed. Most blogging applications contain an automatic RSS feed, but you will need to make sure that it works. We also recommend using an RSS feed manager such as Feedburner to see how many people are reading your posts. This can really help you gauge your success.
These are just three techniques that make blogging much easier. Remember, it is better to err on the side of caution and get help in managing your blog than it is to try it on your own.

But, meetings happen, you get delayed and before long, your blog has fallen by the wayside and you’ve lost all of your readers. A corporate blog consultant can help by providing you with professionally written content that can be used at any time. Whether you only use it in an emergency, or you feel more comfortable with someone else writing your content, this is a huge help for busy blog owners.
6. Knowing your audience.
A blog consultant can help you understand more about your audience and what you need to do to reach them. Even if you’ve mastered this offline, the online world can be substantially different.
7. Setting up enhancements for your blog.
From installing analytic programs to help you track popularity, to taking advantage of third party services, your blog consultant will be able to find the services out there that will help you make the most of your blog and get more attention.
