Corporate Blogs Don’t Have to Fail

Managing your blog properly will take time. One of the main problems facing corporate bloggers is that is all too easy to crash and burn. One controversial post is all that it takes to ruin your company’s image. There are many reasons that corporate blogs fail, but there are also solutions out there to ensure that this doesn’t happen. Let’s take a look at some of the most common reasons that corporate blogs don’t make it and what can be done to make sure that your company succeeds.

1. Failure to keep a blog updated on a regular basis.

Many companies start a blog with the best of intentions but just don’t have the resources to keep it going. A failure to follow through with a blog can doom it from the beginning. You’ve got to be able to devote enough resources and time to keep your blog running and keep it updated as frequently as possible. You’ll lose readers if you don’t keep giving them something new to read.

2. Picking the wrong person for the job.

Picking a blogger is not an easy task. Executives rarely have time to blog and if they outsource the job to the wrong person in the company it can be disastrous. It is vital to pick someone that is well spoken, cool under pressure and very responsible. Otherwise, the result can be a nightmare, especially if the blog has a comments section that gets out of control.

3. Projecting the wrong image.

One of the most notorious corporate blogging failures was Walmart’s attempt to produce a blog that seemed to be non commercial on the surface, but was really a thinly veiled attempt to promote their store. The result was scorn in the blogging community and the blog quickly died. You want to make sure that your blog walks that fine line between commercialization and content readers can use. With the wrong approach, you can harm your company’s image.

Another aspect of this issue is that when you have an open forum, you need to know what to do with it. Blog posts that are unprofessional give reader’s the impression that your company is not professional either. On the other hand, stiff posts fail to produce the human touch.

Each one of these issues can be easily solved by hiring a company to manage your blog for you. This is very important for companies that do not have a lot of resources to devote to a regular blog, but they want to reap the benefits that a blog can bring. By hiring a professional, you can ensure that your posts will be well thought out and properly managed. In addition, you won’t have to worry about taking your employees off of their other projects to manage the blog.

Blog management services are worth their weight in gold. You’ll not only save money over the long term since you won’t be diverting resources, but you will be able to project the right image for your company that will get results.

What To Write About on Your Corporate Blog

Having a hard time trying to figure out what to write?Sometimes when you start a corporate blog you can feel as though you’re going to have plenty to talk about, but after a few weeks – this may change dramatically. If you’re getting a little stuck and there isn’t much news to talk about on your blog, you’re going to need to get out there and create some. Here are some tips to help you keep your blog fun and current.

1. Bring in current events that match your products or services.

If you’re running out of things to talk about, it’s time to put on your journalist hat and see what’s going on in the news that can be integrated with your company. This has the upside of being. a great wellspring of inspiration for days when you really can’t find anything to talk about. Find interesting news pertinent to your industry and offer commentary on it. Find the angle that puts your company in a good light.

For example, let’s say that your business manufacturers drill bits for oil companies. Right off the bat, chances are you are not going to be able to find much to talk about. However, you can use the news about rising gas prices to your advantage. Talk about how the process of drilling for oil can make prices go up, and how you are working to offer the lowest prices possible so that the consumer can realize some savings. This is just one example of how you can spin current events to suit your needs. Don’t be afraid to take on a controversial subject, this can help you get more readers.

2. Make a list of your site keywords to use as inspiration.

Sometimes, the writing well goes a bit dry. If you’re already using SEO on your blog, you can turn to that list of keywords for some ideas on topics to write about. This is really useful when you are in a pinch and can’t come up with anything interesting to talk about. Find a keyword that meshes well with current events and go from there.

3. If you can’t find anything to talk about, turn the problem into an open forum on your blog.

Ask your readers to provide their opinions on an issue that is pertinent to your industry and then discuss this with them. This is a great technique that can help build reader interaction and make your blog less one sided.

4. Say nothing at all.

If you really can’t come up with anything, it’s ok to take a day off once in awhile. Just don’t make a habit out of it. It’s better to wait for a really interesting subject than it is to drone on about your socks if you are really stuck for a topic.

A blog management company can help you come up with new topics and they can also help you stay on target with your blog. These services are invaluable to busy company owners.
