Social Media and Your Corporate Blog

Do you want to utilize social media to the best of its capabilities with your corporate blog? Here are ten secrets that the best social media users are utilizing in order to boost the capabilities of their blogs and other websites.

1 – Do your research!

Why? Because every single successful marketing strategy is based on solid research. You cannot go blindly onto a social media site and expect to get immediate success by submitting your content. Find social media sites that work well in conjunction with your niche.

2 – Interact with the community as much as possible.

Do not completely ignore the community as many social media marketers do , but instead get involved because this is what social media is really all about. Take advantage of the social nature of the platform and interact for better success in your corporate blogging and social media endeavors.

3 – Write FOR your audience.

If you want your content to be hot, and even viral, then you need to write for your audience on these social media sites. Interact with the community and get to know its members, learning about their likes and dislikes for example. Learn what gets the most attention and cater to it the best you can.

4 – Shoot for relevancy at all times.

Relevance is the true key to effective social media marketing. Look at Digg, StumbleUpon and other social networking and social media sites for proof of this fact.

5 – Keep your writing short.

Internet users do not tend to enjoy reading long text passages, preferring instead to scan anything that they are interested in. Be accommodating by keeping your content short.

6 – Good design.

When users come to your page, are they greeted with a design that is clean and welcoming in nature? If not, they may leave! To combat this, simply focus on presenting a good design and you will go far.

7 – Stop trying to make sales.

Another rookie mistake that is commonly made in social media marketing is to try ands ell your products. Promoting your brand is a good thing, but if all you are doing is pimping your products then you are never going to get any respect in the social networking world.

8 – Create Outstanding Headlines.

Your story may be excellent, but your headline is what sells. If you want attention when it comes to social media, you need to have an absolutely killer headline otherwise users will not notice what you are posting.

9 – Help Others Out.

If you want to become a top user or a popular user, you have to help others out rather than simply submitting and promoting the content that you write.

10 – Convert the hottest content.

Capitalize on hot content as often as you can. Make the attention that you garner last for as long as you possibly can by creating more posts to follow the hot ones so visits can read not only your popular post, but also your newer content as well.

Talking To Not At Your Readers

One great way to engage readers is through polling; and bonus it could help you follow trends. Many corporate blogs fail simply because they strike a wrong chord with readers. If you want to use your blog to increase traffic and sales and improve your relations with the public, it is vital to develop a technique that will allow you to talk to your readers, not at them. This is a very delicate balance for many companies and it can be tough to find the right voice for your writing. Often, corporate blogging can be a bit dull, but there are some techniques that you can use to engage your audience.

1. Allow comments.

One of the best ways to talk to your readers is to allow them the opportunity to talk to you. By encouraging them to leave a comment, you are opening a dialogue with them. Even if they don’t leave a comment, you’ve opened that door and shown that you are not afraid to interact with the public. Many companies make the mistake of not allowing their readers to comment and the result is a blog that is very cold and very static. More often than not, these blogs fail because they do not engage the reader.

On the upside, allowing comments can also help increase your pageviews. Many readers like to keep coming back throughout the day to see what is going on in a comment section. They become mini discussion forums for many and it is fun to keep up with events throughout the day.

2. Ask the reader questions.

One of the best ways to avoid talking at your readers is simply – don’t do it. Ask them questions in your posts, encourage them to interact with you and discuss what is on their mind. By asking them questions, your readers will not get the impression that your corporate blog exists only to drum up more business (even if this is the case.) Impressions are so important in blogging and you want to make sure you are giving the right one.

3. Include polls.

One of the easiest ways to involve your readers is to ask them to vote in a poll. Find a topic that matches well with your industry and create a poll around it. For example, if your site sells apparel for women, you can write a post about the fashion industry and the latest news about how many countries are no longer allowing size 0 models. As your readers what they think about this decision. This is a very easy technique that will engage your readers and it will help increase your search engine ranking since your keywords for that post will be included in searches about models.

These are very easy techniques that can be used in any corporate blog. If you’re having trouble with yours and you want to make sure you are hitting the right note with your readers, consider hiring a blog management company. They can help you craft the right kind of posts and build a strong foundation for your new venture.

5 Tips on Corporate Blogging for Companies

Find a Blogging Platform as easy to use as walking through Platform 9 and 3/4.Right now, one of the best ways to reach out to your customer base and increase brand recognition is through the use of a corporate blog. However, many companies aren’t sure where they should start and how they can take advantage of this trend. Here are some tips that make corporate blogging easy for any size company.

1. Plan your blog’s path out in advance.

It’s not enough just to create a blog, throw up a few posts and hope it will work. You will need to come up with a clear plan on what you plan to talk about with your blog, how often you will post and a general list of topics that you want to cover. By taking care of this in advance, you’ll be able to avoid a lot of the common pitfalls that make corporate blogs fail.

2. Design your blog to match your corporate site.

This sounds like a given, but it is actually a very common error. If you’re working on branding, you need to create that factor of instant recognition. By integrating your blog’s design into your site design you will be able to easily create that recognition. Many companies try to get crazy with wild themes or simply fail to have any sort of visual link between their blogs and their sites. This is a mistake that can be easily avoided.

3. Use an RSS management system.

Most blogs will have an RSS feed that will allow readers to receive instant updates whenever you publish new content. There are numerous services out there, such as Feedburner, that take this to a whole new level, providing you with tracking, format management and many other features. You can use these statistics to help shape your blog by finding out which posts are the most popular, which ones don’t receive much traffic as well as your overall readership. Pageviews aren’t enough when you’re trying to see if your blog is successful. You need to have that extra information at your fingertips.

4. Use a platform that is conducive to easy and frequent blogging.

If you are using blogging software that is complicated chances are you won’t want to post on a frequent basis. Likewise, you don’t want to have to spend a lot of time training your blogger to use the system. Go with an application that allows a simple type and post action to make it easier.

5. You’ve got to promote your blog.

If you don’t spend the time promoting your new blog, you may as well not have one. Take the time to use social networking sites and other avenues to build your blog readership.

A blog management company can help you accomplish all of these tasks and many more. Busy company owners find that having this kind of help makes corporate blogging incredibly easy and more successful. You will be able to leverage their experience and expertise to create a stellar blog that gets read.

Making Sure Your Corporate Blog Works For You Not Against You

Avoid involving your company blog in controversy such as flame wars at all costs. One of the main problems facing corporate bloggers is that their posts can be taken the wrong way, or controversy can get stirred up. Since one blog post has the potential to make or break your company, it is very important to make sure that you are managing your blog property. A good blog will benefit your company; a bad blog could destroy it. Let’s go over some things that you need to know before you start blogging.

1. Controversy can be good and it can be terrible –

While controversy can stir up a lot of excitement and can result in extra page views, it needs to be the right kind of controversy. Bad controversy feels like a never ending trial that brings you down and could bring down your company. Never get involved in blog or flame wars, as this will only feed controversy. Never make the mistake of engaging a reader in an inflammatory exchange – even by email. It will backfire.

2. Comments can make or break you.

If you are going to allow comments, you are treading some dangerous waters unless they are managed properly. While companies that don’t allow comments are usually accused of being too closed up, those that allow comments freely on their blogs usually end up regretting it. One answer is to allow comments on your blog but require that each one be approved before it is posted live. This is usually the best answer for most blogs. There may still be some grumbling from those that don’t get their comments approved, but it is manageable.

3. Never use your blog to air company problems.

You may be frustrated with the direction your board is taking or you may be fed up with clients. Your blog is not the place to talk about this. Likewise, if there is more than one company blog, they all need to present a united front for the company. Bloggers should never disparage the company they work for in print. Many have lost their jobs for doing just that and the harm they caused their companies is palpable.

4. Always be professional.

There is a big difference between writing fun posts that are professional and getting down and dirty in the mud. Your posts should always reflect your company and should never be overly personal or inflammatory. You want to present an image of professionalism and that is never done with posts that cause controversy or that are immature. Hold your tongue, or in this case, your keys and leave the nasty comments off the blog.

These are just a few things that you need to be aware of before you start blogging. A blog management company can help you with knowing what to say and what not to say. This is a very good service for companies that are completely new to corporate blogging and want to avoid a potential disaster or setting a bad example for their company.

Is a Niche Blog Right For You?

Is a niche blog right for you?If you’ve been considering starting a corporate blog, but you’re not quite sure that your company is ready yet, there is still a way that you can get your feet wet and start taking advantage of what a blog can do for promotion. Instead of closely defining a corporate blog as something that is used to talk about only your company or to relay company news, you can get involved in a niche topic that may actually be more popular.

A niche blog is usually a defined topic blog that covers something that interests you or can be related to what your company does. For example, let’s say that you run a company that specializes in search engine optimization. You could start a niche blog that would cover tips and tricks or new techniques that are available in this industry. By focusing on a single topic, you may be able to experience more success than you could with a regular company blog.

Here’s a great tip to get you started. Write down everything that your company does or sells, and get your inspiration for your niche blog from there. Find a way to tie in something that the public will find interesting or helpful and choose that to be the main focus of your niche blog. Using another example, let’s say that you have a sporting goods online store.

A great corporate niche blog for this type of company would be one that focuses on fitness tips. You can incorporate what you sell in a subtle way and provide a service to the public. That is the heart of a niche blog and the key to its success. By giving readers something they can really use or benefit from, you are ensuring that you will be able to quickly rise to the top ranks of corporate bloggers.

There are many different ways that a niche blog can be put to good use for your company. One of the most powerful is that you will be developing a reputation for yourself as an expert. Many first time bloggers make the mistake of trying to remain anonymous, or they don’t work on self promotion. We’re not saying that your corporate blog should be the “me show” but you will still need to find a way to inject a little bit of your own personality into your blog.

A niche blog offers a great way to do that, especially if you are covering tips that can be used or helpful information. Look at your blog as a way to develop yourself as an expert in what you do, and let company promotion occur as a side effect. Chances are, your blog will be more interesting and you’ll be getting solid traffic to your corporate site as a result. When you look at a corporate blog as a way of reaching out to the public and providing a service, it will give you the solid foundation you need for success.

What Makes a Corporate Blog Stand Out?

If you don\'t stand out, you won\'t be found.Right now, thousands of companies are using corporate blogging as a means of reaching out to new customers. This means that the field is incredibly crowded and getting more so every day. How do you get your blog to stand out from the crowd? It can be complicated at times, but there are several techniques that you can use to make sure that your blog gets noticed and that you beat your competitors.

1. Put a name and a face on your blog.

Don’t make the mistake of anonymous blogging. Many businesses owners make this mistake because they are not willing to put their employees or themselves out in the public eye. The result is a static blog that is boring and unpersonable. You will need to give a name, even if it is just your first name if you want your blog to be successful. A picture is also useful, but if you don’t feel comfortable with that, you’re going to have to use your personality to create that picture in the minds of your readers.

2. Blog about the right topics.

The blogs that get read find a way to mix current events in with their regular company news. The more topics you cover, the better your chances are of being discovered. Read through your competitor’s blogs and see what they are doing. Find out how you can do it better. It’s ok to have a few posts on your blog that may not be directly related to what you do. This helps build up your readership. However, it is important to find some way to relate every post you make to your company or your industry. Otherwise, your readers could get confused.

3. Allow your readers to comment.

It can be pretty scary to open up your blog to comments from your readers. However, this is a risk that pays off by allowing your readers to feel as though they are a part of what you are doing. If you do allow comments, it is alright to moderate them to avoid having a disaster occur, but you should allow some freedom of discussion. Many businesses make the mistake of talking at their readers instead of talking to them. By using comments, you can avoid this common mistake and ensure that your readers will feel that they matter to you.

4. Have fun.

The most common problem that all corporate bloggers face is that their industry may be a bit boring. There is a way to have fun with your posts, stay relevant to your topic and stay professional. If your blog makes you snore, what is it doing to your readers. Change it up every now and again and keep it lighthearted.

In order to avoid many of these pitfalls, it is a good idea to work with someone that is familiar with blog management. You’ll be able to get the benefit of their expertise and they can help you leverage your blog for success.

How to Pick a Name for Your Corporate Blog

Your blog design is important and the most important thing you can do is name your blog! One of the things that many corporate blog owners do not consider is a name for their blog. Many make the mistake of simply using the format of “Company Name’s Blog.” This is great to a point, but you’ll be missing out on some great ways to promote your blog. In addition, having a catchy name means that you’ll be much more likely to have your readers remember your blog and you’ll have better luck at building up a strong readership. Here are some tips to remember when you’re getting ready to start your next corporate blog.

1. Get creative.

A boring name may tell your readers that your blog is boring as well. That is not an impression that you want to create. Instead of sticking with the standard format, find a way to get creative. For example, if your main site sells books, instead of using Bookstore’s Blog, you could use “Bookworm’s Corner” or something else that is somehow related to your industry. That way, you’ll be letting your readers know that you are not a stagnant and boring company and they’ll be more likely to build an internal relationship with the blog.

2. Use keywords.

One of the easiest ways to pick a title for your blog is to find the most popular keywords for your sector and incorporate them into the name. This may take a little time, but it will be a big help when it comes to having search engines index your blog. Anytime you have an opportunity to use keywords, you should be utilizing it. That way, when a user does a search for that keyword, your blog will pop up in the results. It really makes a big difference in your ranking, especially if you publish on a frequent basis.

The key to getting this to work the right way is to configure your blog software to use your blog title on every post you make. For example: Blog Title: Post Title. This will increase your chances of getting a much higher ranking on any search engine and you’ll also be able to use this as a promotional tool. By getting your name out there in search results, you’ll be increasing the chances of building a strong brand with a recognizable name.

Don’t be afraid to change the name of your blog if it is not working for you. If you don’t have a lot of readers yet, it really won’t make that much of a difference. However, it does help to use the name of your blog in your URL. You may want to consider purchasing a brand new domain name for your blog so that you can maximize all of the benefits mentioned above.

Naming your blog should be a well thought out process. This is the name that readers will recognize, possibly even before your company name. Make sure that it correctly reflects your business and what you hope to achieve with your corporate blog.

How to Get a Better Ranking For Your Blog

Most important tip to get better blog rankings is publish often!Once you’ve gone to all of the trouble building your blog and writing your posts, it’s time to sit back and relax, right? No, the work is just beginning and if you want to start having people actually read what you’ve written, you’ve got to get out there and make it happen. A blog’s success doesn’t happen overnight, and it will take time to build up your audience. After all, there is no point in going to all of the hard work to make your blog if no one is ever going to read it. So, let’s cover some easy ways that you can increase your search engine ranking for your corporate blog.

1. Be original.

So many blogs suffer the fate of unoriginality. In fact, there are times that the blogosphere can feel like one big echo chamber. One blogger, usually high profile, writes a controversial post. Ten minutes later, two thousand bloggers are chiming in with their take on the situation. This is usually done with the assumption that you’ll be able to cash in on the first person’s post, but anymore, this just doesn’t happen. Instead of adding your voice to the choir, where it can be drowned out, you’ve got to get out there and solo!

In addition, you should never make the mistake of using content that has already been published somewhere else. Sure, it’s easier at first, but who wants to read old content? By making that effort to create original posts, you’ll be providing readers with useful information. Originality is definitely key when it comes to improving how your blog is ranked.

2. Publish often.

This is one area that many companies fall down in. Blogs take a lot of work, especially if you are publishing every day. But it is worth it in terms of how quickly your blog posts will be indexed by search engines. The more you publish, the more search engine spiders will come to pick up your content. You can think of it this way – if you could find a way to have something written about your company every day and posted on a search engine, how much would you pay?

You’ll be doing just that, getting your company’s name out there, and you’ll be doing it on your own. There is a lot to be said for self promotion that works like this.

3. Use social networks.

Sites like Digg.com can make your corporate blog incredibly popular, but it takes more than just submitting your content and hoping for the best. You’ve got to create an account, dig other stories and use the social aspects of the site. The more friends you have, the bigger your audience will be, and the chances of making the Digg.com home page increase. Many sites forget the social part of social networking and this is the number one reason why it does not work for them. Again, it takes time, but it does pay off.
