Unless you went out and purchased an already established blogs, the chances are that you just recently launched your blog with only a single loyal reader, your own self. Maybe you received a few hits a couple of days later when you began to tell the people you knew about the blog, but that’s probably as far as readership has been able to go so far. All is not lost, however, as there are some pretty awesome techniques that you can employ when you are ready to increase loyalty and readership numbers. These tips are especially useful for brand new bloggers who do not have much readership to speak of. If you want to get the ball rolling, these tips can be especially useful.
As each of these tips builds on the last, it would be especially wise for you to begin at number one, and slowly move down the list accordingly. Each technique will build upon the last in some way, allowing for you to create some momentum in building your membership base. Eventually you will establish enough of a level of momentum that you will gain some sort of traction. You can easily build up a readership of 500 people or more per day, meaning that you will no longer be required to boost your readership as diligently as before. Instead, your loyal readers will do a lot of the work for you, getting the word out about your blog via word of mouth.
Without further ado, here are the techniques that will help you build readership for your blog in no time at all:
1 – First and foremost, you should begin by writing at least five major or “pillar” articles.
Pillar articles are most commonly tutorial style articles that are designed to teach something to your audience that they can use in their everyday lives. Generally these pillar articles are longer than the average 500-word article, and they are generally full of practical advice and other tips. Pillar articles are regarded as excellent, practical how-to lessons or articles. Articles like this stay current and over real insight and value to the reader. The more pillar articles you are able to produce for your blog, the better off you will be because these types of blog posts never go out of style, and provide value to every single new reader that visit your blog.
2 – At a bare minimum you should be writing one new blog post every single day.
Not every single one of your blog posts needs to be a pillar blog post, but you should still work on having at least five pillar posts at any time so you can continue to keep your blog fresh with new content. You should also implement news pieces and other short article style blog posts. The important thing to consider when it comes to posting in your blog is that you need to demonstrate to all first time visitors that you do take the time to post in your blog every single day.

One of the biggest issues in the corporate blogging world is whether or not you should allow readers to comment on your blog posts. There are two main schools of thought to the issue, basically yes and no. However, we believe that it is important to allow your readers to interact with you, and comments are one of the best ways to do this. You just need to make sure that you are handling the issue correctly for the best results.
First, you should make your decision about comments at the beginning of your blog and then stick with them. Don’t flip flop, allowing comments and then changing your mind. It will give a bad impression of your company and make it seem as though you are trying to hide something from the public. That’s not the image you want to project.
Next, you should think about allowing some not so flattering comments on your blog. No one likes controversy, but the fact of the matter remains that it can increase your page views. Don’t be afraid to allow some bad comments on your blog, just as long as you can answer the issue calmly and appropriately. Obviously, if a comment is just vitriolic and damaging, you should not approve it, but sometimes, bad comments and your response can lead to greater reader loyalty and they will want to back you up.
We’ve mentioned approving comments because we believe the best of both worlds in blogging is to allow comments, but on a moderated basis. This means that all of the comments will go into a queue where you can read and approve them. This is much safer and helps cut down on comment spam as well as people who are just looking to start trouble. It takes a little bit longer, but you will be able to have a lot more peace of mind.
Next, you’ll want to set some ground rules for your comments and make sure that you enforce them fairly. For example, you can state that no profanity or hate speech is allowed, and that some posts may not be approved based on their overall content. If people know this going in, you can cut down on the amount of people that are screaming censorship.
You’ll never be able to please all of the people all of the time, but allowing comments on your blog can be very good for your company. In fact, sometimes the blog comments can be more interesting than the blog itself in some cases. You’ll also be able to increase your page views as your readers keep coming back throughout the day to follow the comment thread.
Used wisely, comments are very powerful and can be beneficial to your business. You may want to hire a blog management company to help you with this process so that you can free up your time to actually work for your company instead of having to babysit your blog.

November 23rd, 2009 — Buildify, audience, content, extra, goals, reputation
There are three basic ingredients that are necessarily in building a successful and professional blog, which are the ability to provide high quality content, the need to develop a loyal readership, and the offering of quality products or services based on the niche or industry the blog is based in. When these three components work together, they can allow you to create a significant and steady income online through your business, by turning your corporate blog into an effective marketing campaign. So what does it take for these three keys to corporate blogging success to come together?
- Quality Content Production –
The origin of any extremely popular online blog is the quality of the content that is written for it. Whether your posts are interesting, informative or surprising, you need to find a way not only to gain attention but also the approval that comes from new visitors who find content appealing to them. Another important aspect when it comes to creating appealing content is the ability to motivate your readers to recommend your website to other potential readers, creating a viral effect that will boost traffic for your corporate blog, increasing loyalty for your company.
- Maintaining Loyal Readership –
First and foremost, the content that you post in your corporate blog should be consistent with whatever theme you have created for it. If you deviate from the initial purpose of the blog, you may end up creating confusion among your readers, which may lead to a significant decrease in your readership, which is the exact opposite of what you should be hoping to attain. The content that you create needs to consistently provide value to your readers. The heart and soul of your blog will be your ability to provide useful, entertaining, insightful, thought provoking or informative content to those who are reading. If you fail to provide this to your readers, it will reduce their loyalty, discouraging them from recommending your blog to their friends and family.
- Quality Products and Services –
Now that you are maintaining reader loyalty as well as attracting a consistently growing subscriber base, a couple of basic assumptions can be made. First, your readers have an obvious interest in the theme that your blog is based around. Second, it can be assumed that you command respect from your readers as an authority figure on the subject of your blog. This means that at this point, there is nothing wrong with making passive recommendations about the products that your company offers, showing them how these products or services will meet their needs.
Do not crowd your blog with advertisements or sales pitches, but continue to give them informative information with a few advertisements mixed in. This is the best way to maintain your readership loyalty while getting your sales pitches out in a passive way.
