One of the biggest facets of corporate blogging is the facilitation of conversation, but facilitating communication, community and conversation is not limited to boosting traffic or boosting sales, because it can also allow you to come up with new ideas for content. If you are looking for new ways to generate content, which is what keeps your blog running in the first, place, consider looking for new ways to facilitate conversation within your blog first, and you may be surprised at how many ideas for new content come up along the way.
If you have something to say that is informative, controversial, or otherwise sparks feedback, ask your readers specifically to give their opinions on what you have written. When someone writes something about what you have posted in your blog, and their comment adds something significant to the issue, you can create additional blog content by creating a post that briefly quotes the commenter, linking back to the original post. The same thing works if people talk about your blog content in their own blogs. You can create additional content for your own blog by quoting the blogger and linking to their post. Not only will this create content for you, and a nod to someone you know is a reader, but it will also further facilitate conversation about the subject.
If another blogger has something significant to say about something you have posted, consider creating additional content for your corporate blog by inviting them to write as a guest blogger for your corporate blog. Even if their content is a little off topic for your blog, it will still allow people to get to know your blog better and will create additional content for your blog.
Finally, if you really need suggestions for blog content, reach out to your readers directly. Ask your readers for suggestions for further reading resources, best tools, weirdest news, best tips, industry news and anything else that they can recommend for you to check out. Once you have a significant collection of results, you can post the collection in the form of a link list, or you can post small blurbs in your corporate blog each day, talking about different suggestions that were made. Some of the best items on corporate blogs are simply nods to other information on the internet, so do not feel like you are forced to write your own unique content when there are other options out there.
Facilitating conversation within your blog and between your blog and others is a really smart way to generate new content for your own blog. You are not forced to write all of your own content when there are other options out there for generating content idea. Get your readers talking, and you may end up with way more content for your corporate blog than you ever thought you would have.

Choosing subjects to cover in your corporate blog is a lot like choosing the concept behind your corporate blog in the first place. When you decided to create a corporate blog, you probably had a pretty clear idea of what your main intention would be in writing for that blog. Did you decide to start writing in a corporate blog to share news and information about your company, your products, the industry? There is absolutely no reason why you cannot write about all three, of course, but you do definitely need to have a clear cut idea of what you’re writing for and why you are writing before you start figuring out which subjects are worthwhile to touch on. Here are some things to consider:
- The subjects that you choose to write about should be relevant to the company that the corporate blog is being written for.
This means if you are writing about an IT company, you need to keep the subjects closely related to the IT field and other IT related subjects. If you are writing your corporate blog to accompany an online retailing company, then you are going to want to choose subjects that relate to online retailing, retailing in general, the products that your company sells and so on.
- The subjects that you choose to write about in your corporate blog should also be relevant to the people who you are targeting as readers.
If you are writing for the employees within your company, then taking about industry news and industry specific topics like how to get the most out of gondola space in a brick and mortar retail store or how to keep track of law clients for a large scale law firm may be best. If your corporate blog is intended to target customers on the other hand, then you may be better off talking about your products, the state of the economy, how to get the most out of the services or products that you offer, and so on and so forth. By targeting your subjects to those who will be reading them, you will be able to garner much larger readership numbers for a more effective corporate blog overall.
- The subjects that you choose to write about in your corporate blog should be subjects that you are knowledgeable about.
You need to be able to write keyword driven or keyword rich blog content if you want search engines to notice you, and this means already having a good working knowledge of the topics that you are writing about. Using the right keywords in your corporate blog content is vital if you want search engines to find your blog entries and index them. This is one of the best ways to reach out to your target market, so make sure that search engines like Google find your content to be just as relevant as you do if you want the greatest level of success in writing your corporate blog.

June 7th, 2009 — Buildify, Categories, blog design, goals, research
If you have decided to create your own corporate blog, one of the first things that you may be trying to figure out is what categories to create. Categories allow you to tag and file your blog entries, and they make it easier for your readers to find the specific entries that they are interested in reading based on the tags or categories that you choose. In other words, deciding how to pick different categories for your corporate blog is an important part of setting your corporate blog up for easy reading.
Choosing the different categories for your corporate blog begins by making a list of the different things that you want to write about in your blog. Once you have a good working list of the subjects that you want to touch on when writing your blog, the next step is going to be to open up a category for each of the topics on your list. When you are done adding categories for each of these topics, you should create one more additional category that will allow you to cover anything that goes above and beyond the scope of the categories that you already created. For example, let us say that you are creating a corporate blog for your computer or IT company. Some of the categories that you may include in your corporate blog on this subject will include:
- Computers
- Current Technology
- Industry News
- Company News
In addition to these categories, you may decide that you also like to blog about meeting interesting people and dining out when you attend corporate events. If this is the case, then adding a category to house both of these types of blog entries, or adding a category for each of these different types of blog entries will allow readers interested in learning what you are doing to find out about who you are meeting and what types of dining you are experiencing while attending corporate events and dining out with clients and other colleagues.
When you are building your first blog, reading other blogs for advice and inspiration is a good idea. Blogging on making money and blogging about blogging are not the only subjects that make money when it comes to putting together and writing in a blog. The blogosphere, or the world of blogs, is actually a lot denser with different categories and different topics and subjects that you can write about, which is why blogs are so popular in the first place.
When it comes to choosing categories for your blog, however, it would be wise to look at other corporate blogs that fit into the same niche or industry as yours, to get a feel for what other bloggers are writing about, and what types of blog entries are getting attention in your industry. Once you have a firm idea of what the current hot topics are, you can create categories that are accommodating, and this will ensure that you are working within defined categories that will attract the interest of your readers.
