Be a news source –
New things are always happening in the world, regardless of the topic. Advancements in technology, new ideas, or even new markets come up all of the time. Thanks to this, you really should have no problem finding things to write about. You could use RSS feeds, or subscribe to a Google Alert for the topic or topics you cover, so that you can be the first person to blog about news-worthy items and topics. You can just give your readership a heads up, or do a commentary on it. Or you could start with a heads up and announce that you will be trying it out, and report back in a month or so with your results.
Be part of the conversation –
On the internet, you are never alone. It does not matter what you are writing about, there are people who will be interested. If these people also have blogs in the same vein as yours, they can be valuable friends as well as assets. When one of them writes something good, you can make mention of it on your blog with a link to their article, and then go on to add your own commentary on it, be it agreeing with what they say or disagreeing (which could also spark a debate, which would keep things lively for a bit).
Questions and Answers –
Another great idea is to let your readers ask you questions directly. If someone poses a question that would be beneficial or informative to all of your readers, you could post your answer for all to see, so that all may learn, or ask further questions. You can also browse other popular blogs that are in your niche, looking at the user comments there to find questions to answer. By beating that user to the punch in answering the question, you can garner more eyes on your own blog.
Know thy audience –
Tools for keyword suggestion can be a great friend. Use keywords that are related to your niche in one and see what comes up. You might find ideas in the listings for topics that you haven’t covered yet that you can write about. Obviously you will want to target the keywords you found so that you can drive traffic from that search engine to your blog.
Do some reviews –
There are always things that you can review, be it a book on your niche, a service that you have been using, the ad network you have been with, sites or blogs regarding fringe elements of your niche, and the like. You really cannot ever say you have run out of ideas for posts. Everybody gets writers block from time to time. Using some or all of these suggestions when you feel you are out of ideas will help ensure that you have no problems with keeping your blog and its content fresh and appealing.
Last but not least, keep it fun. It is always hard to do something when it feels like an obligation. It grinds on you. If this happens, take a bit of a break. Instead of being a daily poster, try cutting back to three or four posts a week for a bit. This will help you rest a bit more, and will also allow it to retain it’s fun nature, instead of being just another job.

Business blogs are quickly becoming the “in” thing, at least as far as corporate communication is concerned. “Blog” is short hand for weblog or web log, which is an online public diary that is updated on a regular basis. Some web logs are updated daily, while others see updates every few hours depending on the industry and who is running the blog. The web log is usually updated with comments, announcements, recommended links and other informative content from the owner of the blog.
Blogging has been a popular method of communication among teenagers, geeks and other extroverts for many years. The typical blog style involves unedited, informal, first person entries that are posted in reverse chronological order. Many bloggers do not consider any detail to be too insignificant to chronicle to a virtually worldwide audience. Many personal blogs are not afraid to get really personal for their readers, talking about what they ate, where they went, who they talked to, and other seemingly mundane tidbits of information that readers are more than willing to learn about.
The blogosphere, or the world of blogging has been expanding at a rapid pace however, and is now including professional journals that are web based and designed to allow companies to reach out to target audiences in a completely new way. Now that entrepreneurs are developing a variety of creative new uses for business blogs and corporate blogs, the technology surrounding the blog concept seems poised to become the next big thing when it comes to communicating on a corporate level, not only with employees within the company, but also customers and competitors as well.
If you are doubting the move that blogging is making from an underground phenomenon into a true, bona fide trend, then consider the evolution of blogging and how personal blogs have already become truly powerful voices and methods of communication in media and politics. Last year, for example, a couple of high profile bloggers blasted Senator Trent Lott for giving a speech that appeared to sanction the act of racial segregation, and the fallout and publicity were so powerful, they ultimately prompted Lott to resign from his position as the Senate majority leader. Meanwhile, high traffic blogs are maintained by comedians like Dave Barry and journalists like Jim Romenesko from the Poynter Institute.
Evangelists believe that business blogs, also sometimes known as bblogs, offer similar potential to any other industry. In a few years, it is believed that we will wonder how we ever lived without business blogs and corporate blogs, according to Jim Carroll, who is a successful author and consultant. At a recent conference focusing on business blogs, Michael Gartenberg with the Jupiter Research company said that the single word of advice for Dustin Hoffman’s character in “The Graduate” would not be “plastics”, but rather would be “weblogs” in this day and age. Blogging is opportunity, according to John Lawlor, a B-blog consultant.

Once you’ve gone to all of the trouble building your blog and writing your posts, it’s time to sit back and relax, right? No, the work is just beginning and if you want to start having people actually read what you’ve written, you’ve got to get out there and make it happen. A blog’s success doesn’t happen overnight, and it will take time to build up your audience. After all, there is no point in going to all of the hard work to make your blog if no one is ever going to read it. So, let’s cover some easy ways that you can increase your search engine ranking for your corporate blog.
1. Be original.
So many blogs suffer the fate of unoriginality. In fact, there are times that the blogosphere can feel like one big echo chamber. One blogger, usually high profile, writes a controversial post. Ten minutes later, two thousand bloggers are chiming in with their take on the situation. This is usually done with the assumption that you’ll be able to cash in on the first person’s post, but anymore, this just doesn’t happen. Instead of adding your voice to the choir, where it can be drowned out, you’ve got to get out there and solo!
In addition, you should never make the mistake of using content that has already been published somewhere else. Sure, it’s easier at first, but who wants to read old content? By making that effort to create original posts, you’ll be providing readers with useful information. Originality is definitely key when it comes to improving how your blog is ranked.
2. Publish often.
This is one area that many companies fall down in. Blogs take a lot of work, especially if you are publishing every day. But it is worth it in terms of how quickly your blog posts will be indexed by search engines. The more you publish, the more search engine spiders will come to pick up your content. You can think of it this way – if you could find a way to have something written about your company every day and posted on a search engine, how much would you pay?
You’ll be doing just that, getting your company’s name out there, and you’ll be doing it on your own. There is a lot to be said for self promotion that works like this.
3. Use social networks.
Sites like Digg.com can make your corporate blog incredibly popular, but it takes more than just submitting your content and hoping for the best. You’ve got to create an account, dig other stories and use the social aspects of the site. The more friends you have, the bigger your audience will be, and the chances of making the Digg.com home page increase. Many sites forget the social part of social networking and this is the number one reason why it does not work for them. Again, it takes time, but it does pay off.
