How to Gauge Web Traffic to Your Corporate Blog

There are actually a couple of different ways that you can effectively gauge traffic to your corporate blog, each giving different answers and filling in a slightly larger piece of the puzzle. If you are writing in a corporate blog and you want to get a good feel for how much traffic you are getting, consider the following:

- Use tools like Sitemeter to track how many visitors actually land on your site.

You place a small image on your webpage, and it tracks information about your visitors as they come to your website. Not only will Sitemeter let you know how many users have come to your website or corporate blog, but it will also tell you where they came from, where they live, how long they stayed, which pages they visited specifically, how long they stayed on each page, and finally, where they went once they left. This is a great little utility if you want to see where your traffic is coming from, where it is going, and how long it is visiting your website in the middle.

- Another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog is through comments.

How many people are commenting on your blog entries? Not only is this going to tell you how many people are visiting your blog, but it is also going to tell you how many people found your blog entry interesting enough to leave a comment. If you are not getting many comments, you either are not getting enough visitors, or you are not interesting enough visitors to garner comments from them.

- Trackbacks and links are another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog.

Are people linking to your blog entries? Are they talking about your blog entries elsewhere on the net? Not only does this give you a good idea of how many people are visiting your corporate blog on an average basis, but it is also telling you what your readers have found to be interesting, noteworthy or worth passing on, as well as why. If you want to get a good idea of whether or not you are posting the right topics and subjects for your potential readers, keep track of who is linking to you or talking about your corporate blog elsewhere on the internet, and take their suggestions seriously to improve your capabilities as a corporate blogger.

If you combine all three of these methods for gauging traffic to your corporate blog then you should have no difficulties getting a fairly decent idea not only of how many people are visiting, but also where they are coming from, what they are coming for, what they are reading and where they go once they leave. The key here is to take this information and use it to your advantage to improve your corporate blog and gain more readership over time.

Ideas for Blogging Content Pt 2

sittingBusiness blogging is rife with benefits for anyone who is able to utilize it properly, as it adds a significant amount of value to a company’s web presence, increasing search engine visibility and encouraging excellent and meaningful interaction from readers, driving an increase of traffic to your website in the process. However it is important to keep in mind that blogging for business is not always easy, because writer’s block does happen, especially when you do not want it to. This is a continuation to our list on ideas for creating blogging content for your corporate blog.

6 – Theme.

Create a series of blog entries that focuses on some kind of theme that is relevant to your business. For example, write about the “Top 10 Reasons…” or “15 Steps To…” or “10 Things You Should…” and make each of these items a separate post in your blog. This is also the kind of blog entry that will get a lot of links from other bloggers all over the internet, which will send extra traffic in your direction if you let it.

7 -Put it on paper.

When you really need to brainstorm for ideas, take out a piece of paper and start putting ideas down on paper. Write down information on your products and your services, and then write down different ways that those products and services can potentially solve the problems of your readers. Jot down some of the best features and benefits for your services and products, writing freely rather than necessarily editing yourself, and by the time you are done you will have a bunch of new blog entry ideas.

8 -Interviews.

Conduct an interview of someone in your company or industry in Q & A format on your blog. Reach out to experts in some field that is related to your company, inviting them to do an online interview through e-mail. When you get answers back from the interviewee, you can publish the entire interview into a blog entry.

9 -What are they doing?

Consider looking to other bloggers in your industry in search of blog content ideas and blog content inspiration. What are other bloggers talking about in your niche or industry? What topics seem to be the most popular or the most talked about in your niche or industry? Read other blogs, visit forums and conduct as much research as you can in order to stay current on what is hot and happening in your industry.

10 – Google News.

Head to Google News (http://news.google.com) and do a search for the keywords and key phrases that are related to your business. This will bring up all kinds of interesting new content including news articles, press releases and other content that will provide an excellent resource for blog entry ideas and guidance for content writing.

With these tips for content creation, you will find it difficult to run out of blog topics to write about in your corporate blog.

Boost Your Income with Blog Secrets

20sIf you have a blog, then you are already on the right track to boosting the income of your business. Blogs are incredibly useful for people who are looking to make money online, either as self employed individuals, business owners, or anyone who is just looking to make cash online. Blogs can help businesses build up their careers in quick and easy ways, eliminating years worth of frustration in many cases. Blogs are, simply put, tools for instant publication. Blogs do not have to be online journals, as there is so much more than you can do with them. So when you hear the word ‘blog’ you should be thinking ‘instant publication’ above all else.

Here are some ways that you can boost your income by writing in a corporate blog or business blog online:

1 – More blogs and more blog entries leads to more money.

You can have multiple blogs, especially if each of your blogs has a different purpose. Look at the Microsoft blogging network for example. Every blog has a unique writer and a unique purpose. Just keep in mind that blogs take a while to develop readership. Create one blog, develop it for a while, then create another blog and develop it independently of the first for more sales and business.

2 – Use your blogs and your blog entries to sell yourself, and to sell your products and the services that you offer.

Your blog will be what allows you to become more visible online. It will literally be the premier tool that helps you to build a name online. Create articles and other helpful content for your blog, and your readers will begin to regard you as an expert on the subject that you’re selling. The more information that you provide, the more advantageous your blog will become, because your readers will respect you and will want to buy from you.

3 – Every blog post should be regarded as an advertisement for you and your company.

Every single blog that you write in, and every single blog post that you write for these blogs should be an advertisement for you, even when you’re not directly selling a product or a service. If you want to build credibility and really sell yourself online, blogging is the tool that can make this happen. These blogs show your readers that you are an expert, and readers want to hire experts and buy products from experts, so if you show that you know your stuff within your industry, your blog will be what convinces customers to purchase from you.

Blogging is an enormously important way to reach out to new readers and to attract new customers because it allows you to establish yourself as an expert in your field or industry, and it allows you to indirectly sell your products or services for an increase in business.

bloggingBlogging has become an extremely popular activity for businesses, and it also has created a very important impact in other circles as well, including an activity for the political scene as well as for ordinary individuals as well. Google purchased Blogger in 2003, and ever since, blogging has continued to grow at an exponential pace. Here are some of the best ways that blogging can be used in order to enhance your business.

1 – The hits that you attract to your website will be more qualified.

By providing interesting content on your site through your blog, you can reach a much larger audience. Post links to your website and when readers follow these links, you will know it is because they are actually interested in what it is that you are offering.

2 – You can increase your return on investment, or ROI.

By showcasing your new products and including information in your blog, your readers will easily be driven from your blog onto your sales pages or into your catalog of products. The more people who click on your site, the more sales you will be able to realize. Marketing really is a numbers game, and blogging for your business really can help.

3 – You can increase your ranking in search engines.

If you use the best keywords and long tail phrases in your blog entries, you can significantly increase your search engine ranking. Search engines are looking for fresh content above all else, and blogs certainly do provide it.

5 – You can create better relationships through communication on a two way basis.

Allowing readers to respond to your blog posts with comments and questions will give you an even better opportunity to develop strong relationships with current and future customers. Make sure that you respond to them to develop this communication.

Your blog will let you offer valuable information that your audience is looking for, and this will allow you to showcase your expertise to all of the world. This is an excellent way to gain the trust of both current and potential customers as well.

7 – Blogs are one of the most cost effective methods of publishing online.

Blogs can be set up for very little cost, and do not require a programmer in most cases. Some blogger hosts are completely free and will set the site up for you. In other words, a blog can cost between nothing and approximately $10 a month; a cost effective option consider the profit potential.

Are You Utilizing Your Corporate Blog To its Full Potential?

If you are running a corporate blog and you feel that you do not have the customer base and the blog is not doing well, you may not be using the blog to its fullest potential. There are a few areas you need to examine to evaluate your blog to see how hard it is working for your company.

First and foremost, you should enable users to post comments, and your company should take the time to respond honestly and in full to user comments. While the blog is a podium for you to get your message out, it should also have a Q and A section to it, otherwise your blog will fail in the ether of corporate blogs. Answering the questions and comments that your users provide will ensure that your customers feel that you have a genuine interest in their opinions regarding your product.

Secondly, blogs should be in a conversational voice. Every post you make could be geared towards selling a product, but don’t make it sound like a commercial or copy for the product. Rather, you should make the piece have a real voice behind it. You can provide tips towards using a product, discuss upgrades to the product, give an insider perspective regarding the company, and many other posts which seem like natural conversation. Do not post blog entries as though you are a sales man; post entries which make you seem like an extreme fan for your company and its products.

Another aspect to watch for is whether your blog is providing a transparent look into your company, or whether it appears as though it is a filter piece of corporate propaganda. This is a very difficult aspect to gain control of, given that any large company will have a large legal department using black sharpies on every piece of copy. This ends up back at the same idea as before, you blog should be personal. It should be written from the customer’s perspective, as if they had open access to your company. Not only will you garner additional customers this way, but the ones you have will have much more trust in your company, and that means more customers.

Do not assume that if you post content on a site where users can comment, that you are blogging. That is a poor way to start and shows an indifference towards learning how to properly utilize the education available to you. Reading other blogs is the best way to truly understand how to setup your blog and how the posts should end up sounding. This also has a real benefit if you go to other blogs and comment and participate. This demonstrates that you have full interest in the consumer.

Finally, do not expect users to give you any real information on their own. Instead, gear posts towards asking your customers for their input. Making them a part of the creation process will not only give you valuable market research, but customers gain great confidence in a company when they feel that they are a part of the process.

All of these tips will ensure that you are utilizing your blog to the fullest potential. It is not a difficult prospect, but rather one that should should be approached from the consumers perspective, not the PR department’s.

Ten Tips for Better Corporate Blog Traffic pt 3

foot-trafficIt is basically what allows your blog to notify other blogs that they have been mentioned elsewhere on the internet. Track backs most commonly appear as blog comments, creating another link back to your blog in other blogs on the internet. Not only will this create new links to your blog from elsewhere on the internet, but it will also attract those bloggers that you have mentioned to come and check your blog out as well.

6 – Encourage people to comment in your own blog.

One of the most powerful ways that you can convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show them that other loyal readers are already following your blog as well as participating in it. If new readers see that other people are commenting in your blog, then they will infer from it that your content is worthwhile. Make sure to respond to comments that are placed in your blog as well to show your readers that you are willing to keep the conversation alive.

7 – Submit your latest pillar article to another blog that is summarizing a collection of articles from numerous sources that fit in to the same subject.

The idea here is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week in a specific place. Most “blog carnivals” as these are often called will link back to each of the participants, creating new links for your blog and giving you an increased chance of exposure online.

8 – Submit your blog to sites like http://www.blogtopsites.com and other similar sites.

This may not necessarily bring about a flood of brand new readers, but it is quick and easy to do so it is well worth the effort no matter what comes of it. Find the appropriate category that your blog fits into and submit it. You should attract between one and ten brand new readers every day, and this can significantly build up over a period of time.

9 – Another excellent way to benefit is through your resource box, which is essentially like a signature file for the content that you write.

You can post articles and blog entries online and create a link back to your blog in the process. Then, any time one of your content pieces is published, your resource box will create new incoming links to your blog, and will attract new traffic as well. If you can get newsletters to publish your content, you will benefit even more.

10 – Write more pillar articles as time goes by.

Everything above will help you to attract new blog readers, but one of the most important techniques is to put strong pillar articles in place. Without your pillar articles, you may be able to bring new readers in but you will have difficulty keeping them. Your solidly written pillar articles will help you create not only a database of useful content, but also a great amount of loyal readers as well.

Is Your Corporate Blog Viral Enough?

The concept of viral content is something that you need to have a firm grasp on if you are trying to get your corporate blog out there. The question of whether or not your corporate blog is viral enough really comes down to what is happening when people visit. What kinds of content are you sharing with your readers? Are you writing content that your readers want to pass around? If you are writing content that is worthwhile to read but does not go very far beyond that, then no, your corporate blog is probably not giving off the feeling of being very viral in nature, which is going to prevent your readers from wanting to share your content with absolutely everyone they know.

In order to make your corporate blog more viral, you need to have a firm understanding of what people find to be viral on the internet. What are the hot subjects within your niche or the industry that your company operates within? Let us say that you are operating within an industry that has to do with working from home, working at a desk, or otherwise working in an office setting. Posting blog entries about productivity in the workplace, a subject that everyone concerns themselves with is something that will get the attention of your readers. Articles regarding being productive while working from home, stretches to do in the office to stay awake, and how to prepare a good cup of coffee using your department’s bland blend are all excellent topics that could become viral in the minds of the right readers.

If you know what it takes to bring your content to a more viral level, then readers will pick up on this excellent copy and want to pass it around. Making something viral is all about turning your blog content into something that is going to inspire feelings like, “My boss would love to read this.” And “I think my sister-in-law will benefit from some of the suggestions here.” And if the first recipients enjoy what they read and see merit in sending it elsewhere, that is when it will continue to be passed around, taking on a truly viral nature as people continue to find reasons to pass it on to someone else in their circle. Imagine if each of your readers send your blog link to a friend, a family member and a colleague every time you posted something noteworthy. Can you imagine the burst in traffic that you would be experiencing on a fairly regular basis at that point? This concept is completely attainable, as long as you learn how to produce noteworthy content that is going to become viral as your readers find it and find reasons to pass it on to people all over the globe. This is the true way to create viral media, and it really is not as difficult as you might imagine as long as you have something to say.

Blogging Advice for Small Business

qaAre you a small business owner, and looking to generate more business through an online internet presence? If you have been considering putting together a blog for your business, the blogging advice detailed below is intended especially for you.

Q: What should I be writing blog entries about?

A: This is one of the first questions that gets asked by small business owners who are curious about the blogosphere. The best advice that you can take when it comes to learning what to write about is to specifically write about any topic that meets two criteria:

a) It should interest you.

b) It should be related to your business in some way.

This may seem rather obvious to some people, but you might be surprised at how many bloggers choose the wrong topics and ideas for their blogs. If you do not choose a topic that is going to interest you, then you will be much more likely to fall behind on the blogging schedule that you need to maintain in order to attract traffic to your blog. If you choose a topic that is not related in some way to your business, then you will be defeating the whole purpose of blogging for your business in the first place.

Q: How often should I be writing and publishing blog entries?

A: Truth be told, the right answer to this one is: As often as you can. As long as you are not neglecting other aspects of your company, you should blog as often as is feasible. The benefits of blogging for your business tend to be rather cumulative in nature. All the things that your blog will do for you, including search engine visibility, buzz, popularity and traffic levels all come over time rather than at once. The best advice here then, obviously, is to blog as often as is possible, be it once a day, once a week, three times a week, or several times a day depending on what you have to say and how often it needs to be said. Choose a schedule that works for you and run with it for the best results.

Q: How should I organize the topics for my blog?

A: It is generally a best practice to limit how many categories you have, which will keep readers from becoming overwhelmed. Choose a handful of categories that you will write about and make sure that all of your blog posts fall under one of these categories, allowing readers to better search for and find the blog entries that you have written in the past. You can write blogs to fit into any category that you can think of; You should try to be broad when choosing organizational categories, so that you do not end up with blog entries that you do not know how to file.

With this small business blogging advice, you should be ready to start your own small business corporate blog to build a successful web presence online.

Quick and Dirty Tips for Effective Corporate Blogging, pt 5

checklistThe last four blog entries (1, 2, 3, 4) have touched on eleven vital tips for crafting good blog entries and keeping your corporate blog going. In the last tip in the previous blog post, we talked about putting together a checklist to make sure that all of the most important details are touched on in the blog entries that you write. Rather than leaving you to craft your own checklist for this purpose, we have created a fairly basic one that you can use for your own purposes.

- Headline -

- Is the topic of your blog entry clear to someone who begins by only reading the headline of the post?

- Have you used a keyword in your blog post title, or have you used one of the catchy title examples mentioned in the previous article?

- First Paragraph -

- Does the lead paragraph in your blog post tell your reader who the story is about and what the story is about? Does it indicate to the reader why he or she should care about the blog post?

- Did you touch on the 5 W’s, Who, What, Where, When and Why in the first paragraph of your blog post? Is your blog post written in a journalistic style, and even more importantly, does it make an honest effort to be objective how you have written it?

- Post Clarity -

- Is the angle that you have used in your blog post one that is likely to appear newsworthy to your readers?

- If someone who knows absolutely nothing about your topic reads your blog post, will they understand what you are talking about?

- Is your blog post completely free of technical jargon and other confusing or unclear terms? If so, remove them now.

- Ending your Blog -

- Did you remember to ask the readers of your blog a question at the end? You need to make sure that you are stimulating your readers to write comments and offer up feedback. Ask them a question, ask directly for feedback or find some other way to essentially say “Hey, talk to me!” because blogs are excellent for the purpose of facilitating communication and correspondence.

- Did you remember to write the entire blog post while keeping your reader in mind? Do you remember WIIFT? Make sure that your readers are getting something out of your blog. If there’s nothing in it for them, why should they stick around and read?

- Finally, run through your blog: Is it free of errors? Run a spelling and grammar check and make sure that there are no glaring errors, because your readers can and will notice them!

Run through this checklist every time you write a blog, and if everything is satisfactory, click on “Publish” and sit back knowing that you put out a good piece of content that your readers will appreciate.

Corporate Blog Security Issues

If you are planning on starting your own corporate blog or executive blog, or if you already have a corporate blog that you are writing in, then one of your greatest concerns should be corporate blog security issues. There are a variety of different corporate blogging security issues that you need to watch out for, and protecting yourself against them will make sure that your blog is protected. Considering the fact that your corporate blog is a part of your company, implementing some basic steps for corporate blog security is absolutely vital. You do not want someone breaking into your blog and posting fraudulent entries or deleting your blog all together. Here are some things that you want to consider:

- One of the biggest concerns that you need to put thought into is your hosting.

If you are hosting your corporate or executive blog in the same place that you are hosting your other business data, you are putting a large amount of data at risk. By hosting your corporate blog entries outside of your normal business machines by working with a third party hosting service you can actually dissipate a large amount of this concern, better protecting your data in the process. By separating your blog entries and blog administration from your normal small business machines, you can better protect all of your data.

- Another security concern that you need to put some consideration into is what happens if you make a goof on your corporate blog.

Imagine having the wrong information posted for all of your customers, clients and readers to see. If you make a goof on your corporate blog, it can be really embarrassing not only for you as the blogger but also for your entire company and the reputation that you have worked so hard to build. Keep this in mind when it comes to posting in your blog, and also keeping it safe from people who want to harm your valuable reputation.

- Here is something else that is worthwhile to consider:

The SEC just recently allowed SUN to make all of their future corporate announcements via blog posts rather than through press releases. What does this tell you about the importance not only of corporate or executive blogging in general, but also in relation to who is actually reading blogs online and how seriously they take the content of these blog entries? If blogging is becoming the new way to spread news about a company, then keeping your blog safe and secure is absolutely vital to the health of your company’s reputation.

Regardless of whether you are just now thinking about writing in a blog, or if you already have an established corporate blog that you are using to build your company’s reputation, it is absolutely vital that you consider the elements involved in the security and safety of your blog. There is no telling what will happen if someone finds their way into your server, wreaking havoc on your blog and your company’s reputation in the process.
