Once you’ve gone to all of the trouble building your blog and writing your posts, it’s time to sit back and relax, right? No, the work is just beginning and if you want to start having people actually read what you’ve written, you’ve got to get out there and make it happen. A blog’s success doesn’t happen overnight, and it will take time to build up your audience. After all, there is no point in going to all of the hard work to make your blog if no one is ever going to read it. So, let’s cover some easy ways that you can increase your search engine ranking for your corporate blog.
1. Be original.
So many blogs suffer the fate of unoriginality. In fact, there are times that the blogosphere can feel like one big echo chamber. One blogger, usually high profile, writes a controversial post. Ten minutes later, two thousand bloggers are chiming in with their take on the situation. This is usually done with the assumption that you’ll be able to cash in on the first person’s post, but anymore, this just doesn’t happen. Instead of adding your voice to the choir, where it can be drowned out, you’ve got to get out there and solo!
In addition, you should never make the mistake of using content that has already been published somewhere else. Sure, it’s easier at first, but who wants to read old content? By making that effort to create original posts, you’ll be providing readers with useful information. Originality is definitely key when it comes to improving how your blog is ranked.
2. Publish often.
This is one area that many companies fall down in. Blogs take a lot of work, especially if you are publishing every day. But it is worth it in terms of how quickly your blog posts will be indexed by search engines. The more you publish, the more search engine spiders will come to pick up your content. You can think of it this way – if you could find a way to have something written about your company every day and posted on a search engine, how much would you pay?
You’ll be doing just that, getting your company’s name out there, and you’ll be doing it on your own. There is a lot to be said for self promotion that works like this.
3. Use social networks.
Sites like Digg.com can make your corporate blog incredibly popular, but it takes more than just submitting your content and hoping for the best. You’ve got to create an account, dig other stories and use the social aspects of the site. The more friends you have, the bigger your audience will be, and the chances of making the Digg.com home page increase. Many sites forget the social part of social networking and this is the number one reason why it does not work for them. Again, it takes time, but it does pay off.
