Introducing to VBlogging

vbloggingIn a lot of ways, text blogging has become a thing of the past. Folks are beginning to blog in other ways, including blogging in video and blogging in audio. Video blogs often tend to be more engaging, and they allow bloggers to use video channels and other unique opportunities to promote not only themselves but also their posts in completely new and exciting ways. Everyone and anyone who is looking for an all new blogging platform should get started with video blogging right now while it is still a good thing. When it comes to video blogging, there is no real thing as getting in too late, so if you’re not already V-blogging or video blogging, now is your chance to get involved. There are some challenges to contend with when it comes to creating your own video blog, however, so keep reading.

A lot of people do not feel comfortable presenting themselves in front of a video camera or in front of a crowd. The mere idea of having millions of people see them from around the world can be a major turn off. Video blogging should be seen as a great opportunity to connect with other people rather than as some frightening or overwhelming affair. By presenting yourself and talking in front of a camera, you may actually find a publishing method that is less formal and less daunting while still creating a powerful message. Besides, in most cases you will be in charge of and control of everything and its great when you are in charge of getting your message out.

Hosting videos can also be looked at as something of a challenge as well, however. Videos can easily consume a significant amount of bandwidth, so you are going to want to make sure that you have the right amount of bandwidth, as well as the financial stability to pay the bills associated with hosting your video content. Most brand new video bloggers can use video networking websites such as YouTube in order to have their videos hosted for free, which allows them to save a significant amount in operating costs without having to deal with any other technical challenges along the way.

The best way to really get started when it comes to video blogging or vlogging, is to see what the “best” at it are doing, and emulate them. Many top bloggers put videos not only on sites like YouTube but also their own individual blogs as well. Watch these videos and you should get decent background for your own video, as well as some pointers on how you can better communicate with your “reader base”. The more effectively that you can communicate to your audience, the more your audience will respond to you and the video blog entries that you post. Video blogging does not have to be complicated in any sense of the word, as long as you can handle speaking and presenting and sharing those videos with the world.

Make Blogging Work for Your Business pt 3

miw3Are you ready to make blogging work for your business? If you already know the benefits associated with corporate blogging, then the next step is to put these concepts to work by creating your own corporate blog and sharing your company with the world. This is part 3 in a short series on tips for making blogging work for you.

12 – Listen to what people are saying when they talk about you.

There are a wide variety of different tools that you can use in order to monitor the conversation. One of the most popular ones is to set up a Google Alert with your name, along with another for the name of your blog, and other alerts for topics that are important to you. Google will send you an e-mail any time one of your key terms is mentioned online.

13 – Find new ways to publicize your blog to your entire network.

Print the URL of your blog on your business cards; include it in your e-mail signature, post it on your LinkedIn account, mention it in your Facebook account, Twitter it, and find plenty of other ways to get the word out about your blog. The more you most your blog URL on the internet, the more likely you will be to have it seen.

14 – Install Analytic Software, allowing you to track your traffic and where it is coming from.

One of the most popular options is Google Analytics, which can be found at http://www.google.com/Analytics for free. Another excellent tool worth considering is Quantcast, which is especially useful when you are selling advertising on your site and want to be able to define your audience, measuring your site capabilities based on your traffic.

15 – Create content that is both useful and timely for your blog.

This is well worth mentioning, because content is what fuels a blog and keeps readers coming back to it for more. You also need to consider the search engine optimization value for your blog and its content. Your blog content should be search engine optimized in order for you to get the most out of your blog.

16 – Use audio, video, photos and other rich media to bring your blog to life.

Different people respond to different types of media in different ways. Create a blog radio show, or host a show with topics relating to your industry and pepper your blog with these media pieces in addition to your normal blog topics. Podcasts are another excellent way to get the most out of your corporate blog, giving your readers other forms of media to take advantage of.

17 – Make it easy for your readers to get in contact with you.

Give your readers numerous means of contacting you, including an e-mail address, a phone number, the location of your office, and anything else that will allow your readers to find you.

There are plenty of other ways to get the most out of your corporate blog, but these seventeen tips provide an excellent jumping off point to build your blog from.

Does Your Corporate Blog Need Video?

If you do any video posts, get a high quality camera.Although video content is lauded and championed as the future of the internet, there is still a lot of dissension over whether it has a place in corporate blogging. While there is no one clear answer to this, there are a few benefits that videos can bring, as well as a few downsides. Let’s look at each of these to help you determine whether or not your corporate blog can benefit from the addition of video.

Benefits

1. Increased interest.

If you have quality video content, this can only interest your readers and encourage them to keep coming back. Video content sometimes does a better job of getting your message across, and if you are producing your own videos, you’ll be getting the benefit of extra face time.

2. Increased consumer trust.

This really only applies if you are starring in your own videos. By putting a face with the posts, your audience will start to feel more connected with you. This is a double-edged sword however. If you are stiff in front of the camera, it won’t work well. If you’re a naturally engaging personality however, there are a lot of benefits to posting videos.

3. Taking advantage of viewer comprehension.

Text based comprehension is historically pretty low. That’s why advertisers usually rely on television or radio, since it takes advantage of visual and auditory senses. By providing your blog visitors with video postings, you will be able to take advantage of all three mediums, audio, visual and text based learning.

Downsides

1. Poor quality.

You should only post videos if they are high quality and enjoyable. If your videos have poor sound or the picture is distorted, it gives the impression that you are too cheap to get a good camera and sound system. This is not an impression that any company wants to give the public. If you’re going to do it – do it right.

2. User generated content.

If you are considered putting up user generated content, such as YouTube videos, you run a lot of risks. They may not be professional and they may provide yet again, the wrong impression of your company. Even if a video is the most viral creation ever made, that doesn’t mean it belongs on your site.

3. Not as discoverable.

Video posts will not be indexed by search engines the same way as text posts, so you are losing out on the opportunity to take advantage of more keywords. The key to beating this is to have more than just a video in your post. Write an introduction with keywords and commentate on the video. If necessary, provide a transcript to get more keywords into the post.

With the right approach, video is a great thing for a corporate blog. You just need to take the time and money to produce high quality videos and utilize the right posting structure to make sure that they get indexed. If you’re not ready to do this, it is best to wait and make the most of your blog the way it is.

Adding Video to Your Corporate Blog

As the user generated content business gets into full swing, many corporate blog owners are wondering whether or not using videos in their blog will be advantageous. There are a few schools of thought on the matter, as well as some basic ground rules that can be followed. In a nutshell, video can be a very powerful medium, but only if it is used correctly.

First, it’s best to determine whether or not video content will enhance your blog, or take away from it. If you are selling products for example, uploading a video on how to use the product, or something interesting about it, could be very advantageous and can work as a powerful selling point. However, if you have a video that does not showcase the product to its full potential, that can be disastrous.

Any video content you put on your blog should follow some basic principles. If it’s yours, it should be as professional as possible, easy to watch and should not bore the viewer. If you decide to use someone else’s video, it is vital to do a little background on that person to make sure that you won’t run into any problems through your association with them. You’d be surprised at how easy it can be to ruin a reputation, simply through association.

Let’s say that you find a great video that works well with your content, and is already quite popular. You add it to your site, and your viewers go to watch other videos from that person. If they happen to be a white supremacist this could definitely work against you. Always go through the video collection before you actually post someone else’s video on your site.

For most corporate blog owners, it is best to stick with videos that are made in-house, and by a professional team. If you are using a bad camera with shaky audio, it’s going to give your audience the impression that you don’t know what you’re doing. On the other hand, if your videos are crisp and clear, that will give the impression that you are professional.

The videos you do add, if you do decide to go this route, should be brief and to the point. Many people make the mistake of droning on in their videos, and end up losing viewers as a result. If you have a longer video series, you may want to consider breaking it up into a few parts. This works in two ways. First, you won’t be overloading your viewers with information. Second, they’ll have an extra incentive to keep coming back to your site.

Corporate blog owners that do start adding video should remember to keep a good balance between written and video content. Don’t lose your focus and become solely a video blog, since you may end up losing those that prefer to read your information. Try to find a good balance between the two so that you can capitalize on the benefits of both forms of communication.

2 Other Options for Corporate Blogs

Jazz up your blog with some audio and video tracks. When it comes to corporate blogs, many people think of just the standard blogging format and they are afraid to break out of the box. However, there are quite a few options that will help bring your blog to life and may even make it easier to get your message across. If you’ve been interested in starting a blog but you’re worried that you can’t get your message across in print, these options might appeal to you.

1. Audio Blogging –

Audio blogging is very similar to podcasting, or simply recording short bits of conversations or your own thoughts an uploading them to your website. This works very well if you have trouble writing down your thoughts but you are a very gifted public speaker. You’ll be engaging your audience on a different level and it will feel even more personable than a static blog.

Audio blogging can be a lot of fun and for a busy executive, it might be easier simply to record a brief snippet on the way to work, instead of having to sit down and type something in. The main downside with audio blogging is that it can be a bit expensive at times, especially if your blog becomes popular. You’ll need to pay for bandwidth as well as more storage space since audio files are quite a bit bigger than text files.

2. Video Blogging –

This is an area that has not been explored enough when it comes to corporate blogging. This is a very great way to get the point across that your company has a human face since that is what your viewers will be seeing. It’s a lot easier to build a relationship with your viewers since they will be able to see as well as hear you.

Video blogging will cost a little more than audio blogging in terms of storage and bandwidth, but for many companies, it is well worth the extra expense. You can look at your video blog as a mini television show that is designed to showcase your company. This is a very effective means of communication with your audience.

Keep in mind that no matter what format you pick, your audio or video files should be about 5 to 10 minutes in length. Special occasions may call for longer files, but this is a good guideline to follow.

If you aren’t sure which format will work for your company, you may want to try a mix to see which one gets the best response from your audience. This is a great way to see what is really on their minds and what they truly like. Hiring a blog management company is also recommended since it can take a lot more resources to produce a video or audio blog than it does to produce a simple text blog. These professionals can make it easier to get your point across quickly and effectively. Give audio or video blogging a try and see what it can do for your company today.
