If you are writing in a corporate blog and you want to get a good feel for how much traffic you are getting, consider the following:</p>
<h3><strong>- Use tools like Sitemeter to track how many visitors actually land on your site.</strong><strong></strong></h3>
<p>You place a small image on your webpage, and it tracks information about your visitors as they come to your website. Not only will <a href="http://www.sitemeter.com/">Sitemeter</a> let you know how many users have come to your website or corporate blog, but it will also tell you where they came from, where they live, how long they stayed, which pages they visited specifically, how long they stayed on each page, and finally, where they went once they left. This is a great little utility if you want to see where your traffic is coming from, where it is going, and how long it is visiting your website in the middle.</p>
<h3><strong>- Another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog is through comments. </strong></h3>
<p>How many people are commenting on your blog entries? Not only is this going to tell you how many people are visiting your blog, but it is also going to tell you how many people found your blog entry interesting enough to leave a comment. If you are not getting many comments, you either are not getting enough visitors, or you are not interesting enough visitors to garner comments from them.</p>
<h3><strong>- Trackbacks and links are another way to gauge traffic to your corporate blog. </strong></h3>
<p>Are people linking to your blog entries? Are they talking about your blog entries elsewhere on the net? Not only does this give you a good idea of how many people are visiting your corporate blog on an average basis, but it is also telling you what your readers have found to be interesting, noteworthy or worth passing on, as well as why. If you want to get a good idea of whether or not you are posting the right topics and subjects for your potential readers, keep track of who is linking to you or talking about your corporate blog elsewhere on the internet, and take their suggestions seriously to improve your capabilities as a corporate blogger.</p>
<p>If you combine all three of these methods for gauging traffic to your corporate blog then you should have no difficulties getting a fairly decent idea not only of how many people are visiting, but also where they are coming from, what they are coming for, what they are reading and where they go once they leave. The key here is to take this information and use it to your advantage to improve your corporate blog and gain more readership over time.</p>

This is usually done so that you figure out how much money each subscriber means to you. For example, this may be $1 a month, $5 or even more. To come to this figure, the list owner typically will add up the sales generated by a mailing and divide that figure by the total amount of subscribers. Most marketers prefer to get to the point where each person will earn them $5 a month.</p>
<p>This same formula can also be applied to your blog and many help you get a better idea of the payoff that you&#8217;ll be getting from spending the time and effort to establish your corporate blog. Once you have a better idea of how much each one of your visitors is worth, you may even be more motivated to keep adding new readers and to keep your promotional engine running.</p>
<p>Thanks to the power of corporate blogging, your visitors may eventually exceed the value of your list subscribers. If you are writing effectively and making sales, you can easily have your visitors worth more than $10 a month to you. Keep it up and see just how much it can grow over a short period of time.</p>
<p>But there are other ways to help you gauge how valuable your readers are &#8211; after all &#8211; money isn&#8217;t everything. A valuable reader is one that reaches out to you through the comments section, follows your work and tells their friends. The amount of people that do that is generally pretty small, unless you have a very popular site.</p>
<p>This is invaluable for many different reasons. First &#8211; you are getting free promotion and that is worth a bundle. Second, you&#8217;re getting better page views which can spell more revenue. Last but not least, you are building up a targeted audience &#8211; and that right there can be worth millions.</p>
<p>Think about the value that each one of your readers has before you post one more thing to your blog. Ask yourself whether or not that post is also valuable to them. After all, this is a two way street. Find ways to build up more valuable readers and learn how to monetize the ones that are not responding.</p>
<p>Managing a corporate blog is not a static position and there is a little bit of work involved, especially if you want to be successful. By learning how much your readers are actually worth, this can actually help you reach your goals in less time. Take the time today to see how much your readers are worth to you and figure out ways that you can increase their value.</p>
<p>At the same time, consider how you can increase the overall value of your blog, since these two are interconnected. Never stay stagnant, and keep moving forward. That is the key to building up a strong following &#8211; and one that is very valuable indeed.</p>

In addition to increased page views, comments allow you to build up a strong relationship with your readers. They can be very beneficial, but it may take a little while before you start seeing comments. Although writing engaging material is the best way to encourage reader participation, there are a few other tips that can be very useful.</p>
<h3><strong>1. Ask your readers a question. </strong></h3>
<p>This is one of the easiest ways to encourage more comments on your blog. Ask your readers a question that is pertinent to your post and ask them to leave their responses in the comment section. This can be a double edged sword, but when properly managed, you can do quite well. Just remember, if you don’t want to hear the answers, don’t ask the question. Go for questions that are not vitriolic to avoid excess controversy that could harm your company.</p>
<h3><strong>2. Run a contest. </strong></h3>
<p>This is probably the most blatant method, but it does work. Try running a contest for something that you sell, or a really great gift that will get a lot of attention. You’ll want to extend the contest for at least a week for the best results. Let your readers know that you’ll be picking a winner from among those that leave comments on your blog. The key is finding a gift that people will really want, since that will increase the likelihood of getting better comments and more participation.</p>
<h3><strong>3. Leave your own comments. </strong></h3>
<p>If you get a comment on your blog, it’s very important to respond to that person in the comments section. You can start a whole dialogue there and your visitors will go away with a brand new impression of you. By taking the time to answer a question or thank someone for their opinion, you are letting them know that you care about your readers. This helps them develop a stronger relationship with you and it will benefit your business in many different ways. Take the time to get personal and you’ll definitely see an increase in readership.</p>
<h3><strong>4. Make commenting easy for your readers. </strong></h3>
<p>Most of today’s blogging platforms have made it relatively easy for people to leave comments, but there are still some issues that may keep your readers from using the system. You need to make sure that it is incredibly easy to leave a comment. While asking users to register before they are allowed to leave comments can be helpful, it generally makes it more difficult and time consuming. It’s best to do away with this step. Your readers will be more likely to leave comments since they won’t feel as though they are giving you too much personal information. Today’s internet users are savvy and they care about the information they share, and if you don’t require this step, they will feel much more comfortable leaving a comment.</p>

<h3><strong>12 &#8211; Listen to what people are saying when they talk about you. </strong></h3>
<p>There are a wide variety of different tools that you can use in order to monitor the conversation. One of the most popular ones is to set up a Google Alert with your name, along with another for the name of your blog, and other alerts for topics that are important to you. Google will send you an e-mail any time one of your key terms is mentioned online.</p>
<h3><strong>13 &#8211; Find new ways to publicize your blog to your entire network. </strong></h3>
<p>Print the URL of your blog on your business cards; include it in your e-mail signature, post it on your LinkedIn account, mention it in your Facebook account, Twitter it, and find plenty of other ways to get the word out about your blog. The more you most your blog URL on the internet, the more likely you will be to have it seen.</p>
<h3><strong>14 &#8211; Install Analytic Software, allowing you to track your traffic and where it is coming from. </strong></h3>
<p>One of the most popular options is Google Analytics, which can be found at <a href="http://www.google.com/Analytics">http://www.google.com/Analytics</a> for free. Another excellent tool worth considering is <a href="http://www.quantcast.com">Quantcast</a>, which is especially useful when you are selling advertising on your site and want to be able to define your audience, measuring your site capabilities based on your traffic.</p>
<h3><strong>15 &#8211; Create content that is both useful and timely for your blog. </strong></h3>
<p>This is well worth mentioning, because content is what fuels a blog and keeps readers coming back to it for more. You also need to consider the search engine optimization value for your blog and its content. Your blog content should be search engine optimized in order for you to get the most out of your blog.</p>
<h3><strong>16 &#8211; Use audio, video, photos and other rich media to bring your blog to life. </strong></h3>
<p>Different people respond to different types of media in different ways. Create a blog radio show, or host a show with topics relating to your industry and pepper your blog with these media pieces in addition to your normal blog topics. Podcasts are another excellent way to get the most out of your corporate blog, giving your readers other forms of media to take advantage of.</p>
<h3><strong>17 &#8211; Make it easy for your readers to get in contact with you. </strong></h3>
<p>Give your readers numerous means of contacting you, including an e-mail address, a phone number, the location of your office, and anything else that will allow your readers to find you.</p>
<p>There are plenty of other ways to get the most out of your corporate blog, but these seventeen tips provide an excellent jumping off point to build your blog from.</p>

If you are starting to feel like you are blogging to an empty room, or your posts are accompanied by the sound of crickets, it’s time to start focusing on whether or not you are reaching your audience. There are a number of methods that can be used to determine whether you are getting hits, but this does not provide the true picture. When it comes to reaching your audience, this pays off in terms of new site visitors, more sales and better word of mouth. So, how you can tell if you are reaching your audience? How can you improve your blog to accomplish this? Let’s take a look at some great techniques.</p>
<h3><strong>1. Measure by sales. </strong></h3>
<p>One of the best tests to see if you are reaching your audience is to create a test post. For this example, we’re going to use a corporate blog that has an online store that sells cordless phones. The test post is going to cover the differences between phones with 5.8 mhz, and 3.0 mhz. Inside the post is a link to discount cordless phones with the appropriate link title.</p>
<p>Float a post like this out there and monitor the reaction. If you move a couple products, you’re starting to get there. If nothing happens, you need to figure out what is going wrong.</p>
<h3><strong>2. Measure by reader participation. </strong></h3>
<p>When you create an emotional connection with your readers, they can’t help but want to communicate with you. Are you getting more emails after certain blog posts, or more comments? Figure out which kind of posts evoke the most response from your readers and then stick with the format that works. It will make a big difference in how you reach your audience.</p>
<h3><strong>3. Measure by traffic. </strong></h3>
<p>While you can’t use this all the time, traffic spikes can help you determine how well certain posts do and what may be wrong with others. For example, let’s say that you do a post on the top ten reasons why cordless phones are useful. You put it up and notice that you have a lot of traffic coming from Digg or Reddit. This means that one of your readers thought enough of the post to submit it to these sites and that it is garnering attention.</p>
<p>If you don’t have analytics softaware installed on your blog, you need to add this right away. You can use this software to find out where your visitors are coming from as well as which posts perform better than others. Once you have this down, you can begin focusing on what your readers want to read.</p>
<p>When it comes down to it that is the whole point of this exercise. To reach your audience, you have to give them something that they want to read. To do that, you’ve got to do a little testing to see what will work and what will not. Once you know, you will start to see a big change in the amount of traffic you get and the amount of reader participation.</p>

However, spend a few weeks implementing all of their techniques and you may end up wondering whether or not all of this hard work is worth the effort. Before you fall into this trap, and give up, it is important to decide whether or not corporate blogging is worth the effort. </p>
<p>As with any good marketing plan, corporate blogging takes time to implement. It is vital to develop smart expectations, and realize that in order to achieve them, you will have to put in a measure of work. While there are a few success stories of corporate bloggers that were instantly successful, it takes the average blogger more than six months to start to see results. If you are not willing to wait that long, you may want to rethink your position.</p>
<p>Let’s look at this problem logically. First, you have a problem – you need to promote your company or products and you have heard that corporate blogging is a great way to do that. The solution is setting up that blog, working hard and being patient. The results can vary widely, based largely on your niche and how much effort you put into implementing the solution.</p>
<p>Corporate blogging is not for everyone and there are some businesses that are not well served by this type of marketing. Realizing that your results may not be nearly what you hoped for is a bitter pill to swallow, especially if you have just spent the last six months of your life slaving away at your blog.</p>
<p><strong>So, is corporate blogging really worth it? </strong><br />
The answer varies on many factors, namely: How much time are you willing to put into the effort, How well you plan to promote your efforts and whether or not you can effectively reach your audience. If you understand this going into your corporate blog, it is easier to develop a solution that will ensure that all of the effort you are putting into this is worth it.</p>
<p>You can work for months on a blog, but if you are not promoting it, if you are not writing posts that readers care about, you are wasting your time. You can wait months to see results from heavy promotion, constant writing and tweaking of your efforts, but if it results in increased sales, it is definitely worth it.</p>
<p>Check the hype at the door and look at corporate blogging logically. It is a powerful tool – but only when implemented, used and promoted properly. Fail in any one of these three categories and you may just be wasting your time. </p>

Whether it is through a lack of attention, or simply an inability to find the right audience, keeping a blog alive can be a difficult task. If you are struggling to figure out whether or not it’s time to let your blog die a natural death, there are a few things to think about first. Quitting may be your best option, at least when you consider how much time and money you spend, but it should also be your last option.</p>
<p>Before you decide to throw in the towel, it’s a good idea to give it one last ditch effort. Take a month and set aside some extra time to really promote your blog. Remember, the people who succeed are the ones that held on for just a little bit longer. You could be missing out on thousands of readers if you quit too early. Here are some quick tips to help you form your last ditch effort.</p>
<h3><strong>1. Optimize Your Keywords. </strong></h3>
<p>Take the time to go through your posts and optimize them completely. Don’t forget the post titles either since this is very important. Post new content as well that is optimized and let the search engines re-index your site. This may help bump you up a few spots in the results page.</p>
<h3><strong>2. Start Submitting Your Feed to RSS Directories. </strong></h3>
<p>This strategy can work in many different ways. First, you are getting your feed out there in front of more people, and second, you are building quality backlinks, which in turn help your search engine placement. Aim to submit your feed to at least 50 directories to give yourself a good chance.</p>
<h3><strong>3. Write Posts That Get Attention and Promote Them. </strong></h3>
<p>Many times, the only reason a blog fails to find a readership is simply due to the fact that it is boring. Read through the front page of Digg and other social bookmarking sites and see what people are interested in. Write content that is applicable to your own site, but still follows this format and then submit it to these sites.</p>
<h3><strong>4. Use StumbleUpon. </strong></h3>
<p>While the advertising service here is hit or miss, the regular aspect of the site can bring in huge results, depending on your topic. Set up an account and stumble your site. You should be able to pick up at least a few new readers right away and over time, this will keep occurring.</p>

During the first few weeks or even months after starting your own corporate blog, there are going to be dry periods where you are writing for a handful of people. This is the most frustrating period and many bloggers pull up stakes. However, if you can begin writing more effective posts, you will start to see an increase in readers.</p>
<p>So, how do you that? There are many ways that you can gauge the overall effectiveness of your blog. We’re going to look at the two most important ways and provide tips on gauging and improving your effectiveness. Let’s get started!</p>
<h3><strong>Reader Effectiveness</strong></h3>
<p>This can be a tough one to gauge, at least at first, but you can learn a lot if you take the time to do your research. You will need to make sure that you have analytics software installed on your blog (Google Analytics is one of the best and it is free). This is going to be one of your main tools when it comes to figuring out how you are impacting your readers.</p>
<h3><strong>There are three main ways to gauge whether or not you are reaching your readers:</strong></h3>
<ol>
<li>The amount of comments left on your blog</li>
<li>Whether or not your traffic starts to climb</li>
<li>How many links you are getting from other sites</li>
</ol>
<p>All three are vital to your corporate blog – but it’s not always easy to improve this area. First, start by including your audience in the discussion. Ask them direct questions, encourage them to leave comments, and keep up the conversation with them. Little by little, you’ll notice more interaction and your blog will begin to pick up steam.</p>
<h3><strong>Search Engine Effectiveness</strong></h3>
<p>While the results from this can be a bit slow to realize, you should start to see something happening if you are blogging effectively for search engines. You can gauge this by:</p>
<ol>
<li>How high your Google Page Rank is.</li>
<li>How many new links you have coming in to your blog</li>
<li>How well your blog does in results pages</li>
<li>How many people are entering your site from search engines (see analytics)</li>
</ol>
<p>If you are using keywords and not seeing your blog anywhere in the search results for that keyword, there is something wrong. Either you are picking keywords that simply have too much popularity, or you are not using them the right way.</p>
<p>Density is vital when it comes to keywords. You’ll need to include the phrase in the title of your post, in the first and last sentence and throughout the post. A good rule of thumb is to shoot for 2 to 3% density on your keywords or phrases. This will make a big difference.</p>
<p>If you are using keywords where there are already millions of results, fine tune your approach. For example, instead of real estate, you can use the keywords Montana Real Estate. Focus on long tail keywords as well to start building up solid results.</p>
