8 Key Ways to Advance your Corporate Blogging Effort

Blogs are mushrooming at the speed of light in this day and age. For this reason, creating a blogging effort for your company can be extremely profitable and rewarding for your company. There is no real start up fees or set up fees that are needed, and starting a blog is quick and easy in most cases with so many free templates and ideas out there. The real key to creating a corporate blog and advancing your corporate blog effort is marketing your blog well, increasing your reader base consistently and effectively so that marketing your products, services and company will allow you to reach out to a large number of people all at once. Here are 8 key ways to create and advance a corporate blogging effort.

1 – The first step is simply to get started.

If you have no place to start, choose a free blog hosting service and begin there. Free blogging services are not the most ideal destinations for corporate blogs, but they do provide a sturdy foundation from which to build your corporate blog if you are just getting started.

2 – Choose a topic of focus that you are interested in, that you know about, and that you can write passionately on.

The topic that you choose is going to influence the keywords that you focus on, which will influence how search engines and searchers will find you on the internet.

3 – Update your blog every single day in order to make sure that search engine spiders and crawlers are constantly on the look out for your blog and its newest information.

Blogs that are updated daily are much more appealing to most readers, as they show that you are serious about the endeavor. If you do not update often enough, your blog will simply fall off the radar.

4 – In order to make a profit from your blog, you need to be able to generate a strong and powerful reader base as early as possible.

If you do not have enough people reading your blog, most advertisers will not want to work with you. Market your blog through every possible method to gain link popularity and a higher page rank for an increase in readership and advertising opportunities.

5 – Make sure that you are making an effort to keep track of site traffic.

This way you can determine your popularity online rather than giving up on your marketing effort. Analyze your traffic and you will better understand your strong points and your weak points.

6 – Do all that you can to gain an insight over what keywords are being searched for, and how people are or are not finding your blog.

Utilize your keywords right and you will have people coming back for more.

7 – Make your online presence even stronger by managing a network of sites or blogs on the same subject, but with different content.

8 – With each blog that you create, use a topic that will allow you to connect to your audience.

Keep your content short, easy to read and interesting and you will have an easier time interacting with your audience.

The Business of Blogging

One of the main problems facing corporate bloggers is that they do not treat their blogs like a business, and they may not take them seriously enough. There are fortunes to be made in the blogosphere, but many companies will fail to stake their claim, simply because they don’t spend enough time learning the business of blogging. If you want to get in there and dominate your niche, establish your company as the leading authority and get the edge over your competitors, it’s time to take a serious look at corporate blogging.

In order to treat your blog like a business, it is important to get the right mindset first. Many make the mistake of looking at a blog as a novelty, or as a waste of time. However, when used correctly, a corporate blog is anything but that. It is a powerful medium that can be leveraged in dozens of different ways, but only when done correctly. Here are some tips to help you turn your corporate blog into a business and a successful one at that.

1. Develop a cohesive strategy.

In order for your corporate blog to succeed, you’ve got to have a strategy in place for implementation and growth. If necessary, write up a plan that details your goals, and how you plan to achieve them.

2. Do your research.

If you’re jumping into corporate blogging without a modicum of information on best practices, techniques and in general, knowing how to use it to the best of its abilities, you are doing your company a grave disservice. Read books on corporate blogging, stay on top of the latest news in the industry and read the successful corporate blogs to get ideas of what you need to be doing.

3. Set aside an advertising budget.

In order for any company to grow, it’s got to have advertising, and a corporate blog is no different. Even if you have limited funds to devote to this project, with smart spending you can develop an ad campaign that will get the job done. Even small press releases can be incredibly effective and can drive free traffic to your blog.

4. Plant your seeds and tend them to make them grow.

A business needs a good start, and it needs to be tended, just like a plant, if you want it to grow. If you’re putting your corporate blog in rocky soil, and then leaving it to die, you’ll never be able to harvest the reward. Instead, prepare the ground first by testing the waters and implementing the tips above. Keep feeding your business with advertising and new content.

Once you start a corporate blog, you’ve got to be committed to helping it grow, just like you would any business. It takes time, it takes effort, but most of all, it takes your concentration and focus if you want it to be a success. It can be done, but only if you’re willing to make that investment.

5 Musts You Should Be Doing When You’re Not Blogging

Unless you are writing hundreds of posts a day, the amount of time you spend posting on your corporate blog should be minimal. In fact, that is why so many decide to start their own blogs, since everything can be automated and you can sit back and relax. However, there are a few things you should be doing when you are not posting. These methods and techniques can help you explode your traffic and get better results from your work. Here’s what you should be doing when you’re not working or posting.

1. Promoting your blog.

You can build it, but there is no guarantee that they will come. It’s up to you to get out there and find readers. Whether it’s getting back links to your site to increase traffic, commenting on blogs that are related to your niche, learning new promotional techniques or taking advantage of social sites, you should spend around a half hour every day promoting your blog. This kind of focus can pay off and you’ll start seeing results in a lot less time.

2. Finding ways to make your blog better.

Is there a plugin out there that could make your job easier? Take the time to see how to make your blog work for you – and harder than ever. New applications are released constantly and many of them are free to low cost. Instead of sitting there with the same version of WordPress for three years, make the effort to be proactive and keep improving your blog.

3. Learning more about the medium.

The blogosphere is not stagnant, it is always changing. You need to stay on top of trends, read news pertaining to blogs and keep finding ways to make your blog the best it can be. By being an early adopter of trends and techniques, you have an edge that your competitor’s won’t.

4. Researching new topics to cover.

Whether you’re researching new niche keywords (they do keep changing) or you are finding interesting angles to promote your products, your research should be an ongoing process. If you don’t have the time to do it on your own, consider outsourcing this task and have them deliver the information to you so you can read it at your leisure.

5. Keeping tabs on your competition.

This is a step that many companies fail to take and as such, they usually end up falling behind the pack. Always take the time to find out what they are doing and subscribe to their blog RSS feed so that you get instant updates delivered right to your reader. This is the easiest way to stay on top of what they are doing and you can use this information to make your blog better.

While some of these steps may be time consuming, they are necessary and will help you build up a very strong audience that is not only targeted, but invested emotionally in your company.

Social Media and Your Corporate Blog

Do you want to utilize social media to the best of its capabilities with your corporate blog? Here are ten secrets that the best social media users are utilizing in order to boost the capabilities of their blogs and other websites.

1 – Do your research!

Why? Because every single successful marketing strategy is based on solid research. You cannot go blindly onto a social media site and expect to get immediate success by submitting your content. Find social media sites that work well in conjunction with your niche.

2 – Interact with the community as much as possible.

Do not completely ignore the community as many social media marketers do , but instead get involved because this is what social media is really all about. Take advantage of the social nature of the platform and interact for better success in your corporate blogging and social media endeavors.

3 – Write FOR your audience.

If you want your content to be hot, and even viral, then you need to write for your audience on these social media sites. Interact with the community and get to know its members, learning about their likes and dislikes for example. Learn what gets the most attention and cater to it the best you can.

4 – Shoot for relevancy at all times.

Relevance is the true key to effective social media marketing. Look at Digg, StumbleUpon and other social networking and social media sites for proof of this fact.

5 – Keep your writing short.

Internet users do not tend to enjoy reading long text passages, preferring instead to scan anything that they are interested in. Be accommodating by keeping your content short.

6 – Good design.

When users come to your page, are they greeted with a design that is clean and welcoming in nature? If not, they may leave! To combat this, simply focus on presenting a good design and you will go far.

7 – Stop trying to make sales.

Another rookie mistake that is commonly made in social media marketing is to try ands ell your products. Promoting your brand is a good thing, but if all you are doing is pimping your products then you are never going to get any respect in the social networking world.

8 – Create Outstanding Headlines.

Your story may be excellent, but your headline is what sells. If you want attention when it comes to social media, you need to have an absolutely killer headline otherwise users will not notice what you are posting.

9 – Help Others Out.

If you want to become a top user or a popular user, you have to help others out rather than simply submitting and promoting the content that you write.

10 – Convert the hottest content.

Capitalize on hot content as often as you can. Make the attention that you garner last for as long as you possibly can by creating more posts to follow the hot ones so visits can read not only your popular post, but also your newer content as well.

Is Your Corporate Blog Viral Enough?

The concept of viral content is something that you need to have a firm grasp on if you are trying to get your corporate blog out there. The question of whether or not your corporate blog is viral enough really comes down to what is happening when people visit. What kinds of content are you sharing with your readers? Are you writing content that your readers want to pass around? If you are writing content that is worthwhile to read but does not go very far beyond that, then no, your corporate blog is probably not giving off the feeling of being very viral in nature, which is going to prevent your readers from wanting to share your content with absolutely everyone they know.

In order to make your corporate blog more viral, you need to have a firm understanding of what people find to be viral on the internet. What are the hot subjects within your niche or the industry that your company operates within? Let us say that you are operating within an industry that has to do with working from home, working at a desk, or otherwise working in an office setting. Posting blog entries about productivity in the workplace, a subject that everyone concerns themselves with is something that will get the attention of your readers. Articles regarding being productive while working from home, stretches to do in the office to stay awake, and how to prepare a good cup of coffee using your department’s bland blend are all excellent topics that could become viral in the minds of the right readers.

If you know what it takes to bring your content to a more viral level, then readers will pick up on this excellent copy and want to pass it around. Making something viral is all about turning your blog content into something that is going to inspire feelings like, “My boss would love to read this.” And “I think my sister-in-law will benefit from some of the suggestions here.” And if the first recipients enjoy what they read and see merit in sending it elsewhere, that is when it will continue to be passed around, taking on a truly viral nature as people continue to find reasons to pass it on to someone else in their circle. Imagine if each of your readers send your blog link to a friend, a family member and a colleague every time you posted something noteworthy. Can you imagine the burst in traffic that you would be experiencing on a fairly regular basis at that point? This concept is completely attainable, as long as you learn how to produce noteworthy content that is going to become viral as your readers find it and find reasons to pass it on to people all over the globe. This is the true way to create viral media, and it really is not as difficult as you might imagine as long as you have something to say.

Are There Too Many Corporate Bloggers?

This is a question that many business owners have when they consider getting into the world of corporate blogging. These days, it seems as though everyone has a blog and that the market is entirely glutted. The good news is, that there are more than enough niches to go around and there are plenty of ways that bloggers can stand out from the crowd, with a little hard work and some perseverance.

The first step is to find out just how many similar blogs you will be going up against.
Do some research and subscribe to each of these blogs. Track them for about a month or so to determine how frequently they publish, what kind of content they are producing and whether or not you feel you can do it better.

This market research is incredibly invaluable and will help you determine what steps you will need to take next. For example, if your competitors have very good blogs, but they only publish rarely, you can use this to your advantage. By publishing once a day, or at least a few times a week, you can offer readers instant gratification on that topic. This works very well for micro-niches, and for very popular topics.

The second thing you will learn is whether or not their blog posts are any good. Do they have readers commenting? Learn from the mistakes they made before you make your first post to your blog. This will assist you greatly in spending less time figuring out what your readers want to know, since essentially, you are dealing with the same market.

After you have gone through these steps, the next one to take is to find your own unique voice, and your own unique take on the subject. Unless your blog will be specifically about your company, there is a lot of room to get creative and branch out. For example, if you are using your corporate blog to discuss certain products that are already widely talked about, find a way to make your voice stand out.

Always research the topic before you post to determine first how many posts are similar, and how popular the subject matter is. By using these techniques, you are actually benefiting from the fact that corporate blogging is so popular and using that to your advantage. You will be able to discover new keywords, or even new ideas that will help you improve your blog. Give it a try and see just how much information you can uncover on your competitors as well as the different products you will be posting about.

There are millions of websites and blogs, and while some may never find their readership, with careful work and a lot of research, you can begin to carve out your own section in the blogosphere. Remember, it can take months to find your stride, so give it plenty of time. With promotion, quality content and commitment, your corporate blog can succeed, no matter how much competition you may be facing.

Who Are You Blogging For? Knowing Your Audience.

Once you have made the decision to write a corporate blog, then you are definitely on the right path. However, one of the most important considerations that you need to make when planning for your corporate blog is this: Who are you blogging for? There are two different facets to the answer to this question. The first facet is specifically who you are intending to target, and the second is who is actually reading.

Who are you targeting?

The first thing that you need to figure out when putting together a corporate blog is who you intend on reaching out to. Are you trying to reach new potential customers, or trying to elicit feedback from your readers on the products or services that you offer? Is your main target audience people in the same industry as you, people who operate within your company, or people who are looking to learn more about what you offer?

Who you are intending to write your blog for will determine what you write and how you write it. You need to have a good idea of who your target audiences are when you put together a blog, because a lot of your effort is going to go to writing to reach out to these target readers. If you do not already have a clear cut idea of who you intend to reach out to with your blog, then you have some things that you need to figure out before you start writing.

Who is actually reading?

Something to consider is that the people are reading your blog may or may not be the people who you are actually intending to target. Just because you want to attract new customers doesn’t mean that is who is going to find and want to read your blog. Just because you are attempting to attract people with a certain interest does not mean that is who will find your blog.

You need to be able to determine who is actually reading your blog in order to improve your capability of reaching out to additional readers. Are you attracting people from certain niches? Are you attracting readers but no potential customers? Are you reaching out to the right people, or are you having trouble getting the attention of those who really matter to you? Once you know who you want to target, and once you know who you are actually targeting, that is when you can improve the capabilities of your blog and work on reaching out to new audiences.

One of the biggest questions that you can ask yourself when you start putting together a concept for a corporate blog is this: Who you are blogging for? Once you know who your target audience is, that is when you can truly become effective as a corporate blogger because it will allow you to target your blog entries, website content and other details of your blog specifically to suit your target audience for the greatest effectiveness.

How to Pick Different Categories for Your Corporate Blog

If you have decided to create your own corporate blog, one of the first things that you may be trying to figure out is what categories to create. Categories allow you to tag and file your blog entries, and they make it easier for your readers to find the specific entries that they are interested in reading based on the tags or categories that you choose. In other words, deciding how to pick different categories for your corporate blog is an important part of setting your corporate blog up for easy reading.

Choosing the different categories for your corporate blog begins by making a list of the different things that you want to write about in your blog. Once you have a good working list of the subjects that you want to touch on when writing your blog, the next step is going to be to open up a category for each of the topics on your list. When you are done adding categories for each of these topics, you should create one more additional category that will allow you to cover anything that goes above and beyond the scope of the categories that you already created. For example, let us say that you are creating a corporate blog for your computer or IT company. Some of the categories that you may include in your corporate blog on this subject will include:

- Computers
- Current Technology
- Industry News
- Company News

In addition to these categories, you may decide that you also like to blog about meeting interesting people and dining out when you attend corporate events. If this is the case, then adding a category to house both of these types of blog entries, or adding a category for each of these different types of blog entries will allow readers interested in learning what you are doing to find out about who you are meeting and what types of dining you are experiencing while attending corporate events and dining out with clients and other colleagues.

When you are building your first blog, reading other blogs for advice and inspiration is a good idea. Blogging on making money and blogging about blogging are not the only subjects that make money when it comes to putting together and writing in a blog. The blogosphere, or the world of blogs, is actually a lot denser with different categories and different topics and subjects that you can write about, which is why blogs are so popular in the first place.

When it comes to choosing categories for your blog, however, it would be wise to look at other corporate blogs that fit into the same niche or industry as yours, to get a feel for what other bloggers are writing about, and what types of blog entries are getting attention in your industry. Once you have a firm idea of what the current hot topics are, you can create categories that are accommodating, and this will ensure that you are working within defined categories that will attract the interest of your readers.
