As corporate blogging maintains a stronger foothold on in many industries, companies are seeking ways to take their efforts to the next level. If you’re interested in growing your blog’s audience and you want to engage your readers, you may want to consider trying a technique known as live blogging.
This is best illustrated by the activity that surrounds an upcoming launch and the subsequent blitz of a new Apple product. Weeks, if not months, before Apple releases something new, bloggers go to work talking about it, building up buzz and creating a frenzy. Then, as the day of the release gets closer, they kick it up a notch and get prepared. On launch day, many bloggers will be present in the audience and they will be blogging live about what is happening, in real time.
These blogs are always interesting to read, because they have that real time element and the excitement is palpable. You may not be Apple, but there are ways that you can use live corporate blogging to enhance your company, engage your readers and build up momentum to promote your new products.
The first step is to plan out an actual campaign for your live blogging efforts. Take the time to read through other live blogging events and their aftermath. You can learn a lot by taking the time to learn about any mistakes that were made, and how you can utilize the same exact tips in your business. You’ll also need to plan a big event, one that will interest your visitors and is large enough to generate buzz.
For example, a launch that covers a new type of dental floss may not be very exciting. However, a launch about a new type of dental floss that can dramatically reduce tooth decay without brushing would be. You’ve got to find that interesting angle, and then work to figure out how you’re going to push it.
A live blogging event will require some extra equipment. At the very least, you’ll need a laptop or a Blackberry. You’ll have to be connected to the internet and be able to post to your blog from your location. Once you have this in place, you can set up either a regular schedule to keep your readers updated, or you can do it as it happens.
Live blogging is exciting and these techniques can be used for virtually any corporate blog. The key is finding that angle, building up that buzz and following through. If you can do that, you’ll be able to hold a successful live blogging event. It’s a good idea to chronicle your efforts as you go through this process. This will help you plan out future launches and live corporate blogging events that will build on the success of your first one.
Try implementing these techniques the next time you have a new product or service coming out. Chances are, your readers will get swept away and you’ll notice a dramatic increase in site visitors and buyers.

The whole point of creating a corporate blog is to be able to reach out to your customers, build up an audience and market your company. It takes time to build up an audience but there are many things that you can do to ensure that more people will start reading your corporate blog. Let’s take a look at just a few hints that will get you started.
1. Promote your blog on your own site and in company material.
Take yourself back to a few years ago when more companies started building an online presence. Back then, you had to put your URL on everything (and you still should be) to get noticed. The same is true to today. It is important to actively and heavily promote your corporate blog in any way that you can. Adding it to your site should only take a few minutes and you’ll be capitalizing on people that are already interested in your company.
2. Use social networking sites.
Submitting your blog posts to places such as Reddit.com and Digg.com are great ways to increase your traffic and discover new customers. Keep in mind however that generic posts that are not very interesting are probably not going to get voted up on to the front pages. Pay attention to the posts that make the front page on social networking sites and find a way to do something similar on your own blog. Top ten lists are always popular and there is usually a way that you can create one for your own business. Let’s say that you run a corporate blog for a shoe store. You could do a top ten list on common foot injuries and how they could be prevented. Get creative!
3. Schedule interviews or invite guest bloggers.
Let’s face it, unless you are an incredibly engaging person, your blog might get a little bit dull from time to time. Inviting a high profile blogger in your industry to guest post on your blog is a great way to get cross traffic. If they won’t do that, schedule an interview with them and post it on your blog. By including someone who is more popular, you’ll be leveraging their success and putting it to work for your site.
4. Use keywords.
Smart bloggers use keywords that will ensure that their blogs are discovered. Read up on search engine optimization and then put those same techniques to work on your blog. You’ll be ranked higher in search engines, your discoverability will go up and you’ll be promoting your company the easy way. SEO is not that difficult and its benefits are numerous. Find keywords that are popular and integrate them into your blog posts.
5. Comment on other blogs in your industry.
Whenever you leave a comment on a blog, include your own URL. Many people underestimate just how powerful a comment can be. Just make sure that the comment won’t count against you or your company!

One of the biggest facets of corporate blogging is the facilitation of conversation, but facilitating communication, community and conversation is not limited to boosting traffic or boosting sales, because it can also allow you to come up with new ideas for content. If you are looking for new ways to generate content, which is what keeps your blog running in the first, place, consider looking for new ways to facilitate conversation within your blog first, and you may be surprised at how many ideas for new content come up along the way.
If you have something to say that is informative, controversial, or otherwise sparks feedback, ask your readers specifically to give their opinions on what you have written. When someone writes something about what you have posted in your blog, and their comment adds something significant to the issue, you can create additional blog content by creating a post that briefly quotes the commenter, linking back to the original post. The same thing works if people talk about your blog content in their own blogs. You can create additional content for your own blog by quoting the blogger and linking to their post. Not only will this create content for you, and a nod to someone you know is a reader, but it will also further facilitate conversation about the subject.
If another blogger has something significant to say about something you have posted, consider creating additional content for your corporate blog by inviting them to write as a guest blogger for your corporate blog. Even if their content is a little off topic for your blog, it will still allow people to get to know your blog better and will create additional content for your blog.
Finally, if you really need suggestions for blog content, reach out to your readers directly. Ask your readers for suggestions for further reading resources, best tools, weirdest news, best tips, industry news and anything else that they can recommend for you to check out. Once you have a significant collection of results, you can post the collection in the form of a link list, or you can post small blurbs in your corporate blog each day, talking about different suggestions that were made. Some of the best items on corporate blogs are simply nods to other information on the internet, so do not feel like you are forced to write your own unique content when there are other options out there.
Facilitating conversation within your blog and between your blog and others is a really smart way to generate new content for your own blog. You are not forced to write all of your own content when there are other options out there for generating content idea. Get your readers talking, and you may end up with way more content for your corporate blog than you ever thought you would have.

August 19th, 2009 — Buildify, audience, blogosphere, comments, content, engaging ideas, extra, guest bloggers, links
Sometimes increasing the efficiency of a corporate blog is as simple as implementing some small but powerful steps. Here are a few incredibly intelligent ideas for corporate blogging that will allow you to be more efficient and more effective as a result.
1 - When there is a lot of discussion in the comments section of a blog post, or if someone adds information to the comments that is critical and bears repeating, it would be ideal to create a short blog post that quotes the most relevant information, pointing people to the comments made prior so that they can read everything that was said. This isn’t cheating, but rather gives subscribers who use RSS to read your blog a chance to check out some conversation that they may not necessarily be aware of.
2 – When someone writes about something that was posted in your blog, and something of significance is added to the understanding of the issue in their blog, then consider creating a short post that briefly quotes their part of the conversation, posting a link to point people to the other blogger’s post. This will help people who do not see the trackback and pingback links in your post to reach out to other posts in the “blogosphere”.
3 – Create a short post in your blog that links to the top posts for your blog, or perhaps the most controversial posts in your blog, or even the ones that you sweated over more than the others. This is a great way to get readers looking at your other posts.
4 – When you go to another blog to write a guest post, or when you post content or another site, create a short blog post in your own corporate blog that links to that post. Even if what you wrote about was not quite on topic for your own blog, it is still worthwhile to let your readers know what you are writing elsewhere so that they can get to know you better through reading your content.
5 – If you have a big, long subject to talk about, break it into smaller pieces and spread them out over a period of several days. Use the first one in order to introduce the topic thoroughly and to solicit responses, and then post the others including reader feedback as you go.
6 – Solicit responses and suggestions from your readers regarding further reading, tips, weird news, best tools and other information and ask them to post the results as link lists. You can create a completely separate post for each topic that you come up with. Some of the best posts on some blogs are simply short links to other sources, even without a lengthy explanation of the background about the post.
7 – When you see something that is strikingly funny, awful, unusual or interesting, post something short about it, without feeling that you have a weighty reason to point it out. You can easily post a 15-30 word blog post like a little note tucked inside the margin of a book or magazine without having to go into any further detail.
