Live Corporate Blogging

As corporate blogging maintains a stronger foothold on in many industries, companies are seeking ways to take their efforts to the next level. If you’re interested in growing  your blog’s audience and you want to engage your readers, you may want to consider trying a technique known as live blogging.

This is best illustrated by the activity that surrounds an upcoming launch and the subsequent blitz of a new Apple product. Weeks, if not months, before Apple releases something new, bloggers go to work talking about it, building up buzz and creating a frenzy. Then, as the day of the release gets closer, they kick it up a notch and get prepared. On launch day, many bloggers will be present in the audience and they will be blogging live about what is happening, in real time.

These blogs are always interesting to read, because they have that real time element and the excitement is palpable. You may not be Apple, but there are ways that you can use live corporate blogging to enhance your company, engage your readers and build up momentum to promote your new products.

The first step is to plan out an actual campaign for your live blogging efforts. Take the time to read through other live blogging events and their aftermath. You can learn a lot by taking the time to learn about any mistakes that were made, and how you can utilize the same exact tips in your business. You’ll also need to plan a big event, one that will interest your visitors and is large enough to generate buzz.

For example, a launch that covers a new type of dental floss may not be very exciting. However, a launch about a new type of dental floss that can dramatically reduce tooth decay without brushing would be. You’ve got to find that interesting angle, and then work to figure out how you’re going to push it.

A live blogging event will require some extra equipment. At the very least, you’ll need a laptop or a Blackberry. You’ll have to be connected to the internet and be able to post to your blog from your location. Once you have this in place, you can set up either a regular schedule to keep your readers updated, or you can do it as it happens.

Live blogging is exciting and these techniques can be used for virtually any corporate blog. The key is finding that angle, building up that buzz and following through. If you can do that, you’ll be able to hold a successful live blogging event. It’s a good idea to chronicle your efforts as you go through this process. This will help you plan out future launches and live corporate blogging events that will build on the success of your first one.

Try implementing these techniques the next time you have a new product or service coming out. Chances are, your readers will get swept away and you’ll notice a dramatic increase in site visitors and buyers.

How Valuable Are Your Readers?

Many list owners have a formula that helps them figure out how valuable their subscribers are. This is usually done so that you figure out how much money each subscriber means to you. For example, this may be $1 a month, $5 or even more. To come to this figure, the list owner typically will add up the sales generated by a mailing and divide that figure by the total amount of subscribers. Most marketers prefer to get to the point where each person will earn them $5 a month.

This same formula can also be applied to your blog and many help you get a better idea of the payoff that you’ll be getting from spending the time and effort to establish your corporate blog. Once you have a better idea of how much each one of your visitors is worth, you may even be more motivated to keep adding new readers and to keep your promotional engine running.

Thanks to the power of corporate blogging, your visitors may eventually exceed the value of your list subscribers. If you are writing effectively and making sales, you can easily have your visitors worth more than $10 a month to you. Keep it up and see just how much it can grow over a short period of time.

But there are other ways to help you gauge how valuable your readers are – after all – money isn’t everything. A valuable reader is one that reaches out to you through the comments section, follows your work and tells their friends. The amount of people that do that is generally pretty small, unless you have a very popular site.

This is invaluable for many different reasons. First – you are getting free promotion and that is worth a bundle. Second, you’re getting better page views which can spell more revenue. Last but not least, you are building up a targeted audience – and that right there can be worth millions.

Think about the value that each one of your readers has before you post one more thing to your blog. Ask yourself whether or not that post is also valuable to them. After all, this is a two way street. Find ways to build up more valuable readers and learn how to monetize the ones that are not responding.

Managing a corporate blog is not a static position and there is a little bit of work involved, especially if you want to be successful. By learning how much your readers are actually worth, this can actually help you reach your goals in less time. Take the time today to see how much your readers are worth to you and figure out ways that you can increase their value.

At the same time, consider how you can increase the overall value of your blog, since these two are interconnected. Never stay stagnant, and keep moving forward. That is the key to building up a strong following – and one that is very valuable indeed.

Ideas for Blogging Content Pt 2

sittingBusiness blogging is rife with benefits for anyone who is able to utilize it properly, as it adds a significant amount of value to a company’s web presence, increasing search engine visibility and encouraging excellent and meaningful interaction from readers, driving an increase of traffic to your website in the process. However it is important to keep in mind that blogging for business is not always easy, because writer’s block does happen, especially when you do not want it to. This is a continuation to our list on ideas for creating blogging content for your corporate blog.

6 – Theme.

Create a series of blog entries that focuses on some kind of theme that is relevant to your business. For example, write about the “Top 10 Reasons…” or “15 Steps To…” or “10 Things You Should…” and make each of these items a separate post in your blog. This is also the kind of blog entry that will get a lot of links from other bloggers all over the internet, which will send extra traffic in your direction if you let it.

7 -Put it on paper.

When you really need to brainstorm for ideas, take out a piece of paper and start putting ideas down on paper. Write down information on your products and your services, and then write down different ways that those products and services can potentially solve the problems of your readers. Jot down some of the best features and benefits for your services and products, writing freely rather than necessarily editing yourself, and by the time you are done you will have a bunch of new blog entry ideas.

8 -Interviews.

Conduct an interview of someone in your company or industry in Q & A format on your blog. Reach out to experts in some field that is related to your company, inviting them to do an online interview through e-mail. When you get answers back from the interviewee, you can publish the entire interview into a blog entry.

9 -What are they doing?

Consider looking to other bloggers in your industry in search of blog content ideas and blog content inspiration. What are other bloggers talking about in your niche or industry? What topics seem to be the most popular or the most talked about in your niche or industry? Read other blogs, visit forums and conduct as much research as you can in order to stay current on what is hot and happening in your industry.

10 – Google News.

Head to Google News (http://news.google.com) and do a search for the keywords and key phrases that are related to your business. This will bring up all kinds of interesting new content including news articles, press releases and other content that will provide an excellent resource for blog entry ideas and guidance for content writing.

With these tips for content creation, you will find it difficult to run out of blog topics to write about in your corporate blog.

Introducing to VBlogging

vbloggingIn a lot of ways, text blogging has become a thing of the past. Folks are beginning to blog in other ways, including blogging in video and blogging in audio. Video blogs often tend to be more engaging, and they allow bloggers to use video channels and other unique opportunities to promote not only themselves but also their posts in completely new and exciting ways. Everyone and anyone who is looking for an all new blogging platform should get started with video blogging right now while it is still a good thing. When it comes to video blogging, there is no real thing as getting in too late, so if you’re not already V-blogging or video blogging, now is your chance to get involved. There are some challenges to contend with when it comes to creating your own video blog, however, so keep reading.

A lot of people do not feel comfortable presenting themselves in front of a video camera or in front of a crowd. The mere idea of having millions of people see them from around the world can be a major turn off. Video blogging should be seen as a great opportunity to connect with other people rather than as some frightening or overwhelming affair. By presenting yourself and talking in front of a camera, you may actually find a publishing method that is less formal and less daunting while still creating a powerful message. Besides, in most cases you will be in charge of and control of everything and its great when you are in charge of getting your message out.

Hosting videos can also be looked at as something of a challenge as well, however. Videos can easily consume a significant amount of bandwidth, so you are going to want to make sure that you have the right amount of bandwidth, as well as the financial stability to pay the bills associated with hosting your video content. Most brand new video bloggers can use video networking websites such as YouTube in order to have their videos hosted for free, which allows them to save a significant amount in operating costs without having to deal with any other technical challenges along the way.

The best way to really get started when it comes to video blogging or vlogging, is to see what the “best” at it are doing, and emulate them. Many top bloggers put videos not only on sites like YouTube but also their own individual blogs as well. Watch these videos and you should get decent background for your own video, as well as some pointers on how you can better communicate with your “reader base”. The more effectively that you can communicate to your audience, the more your audience will respond to you and the video blog entries that you post. Video blogging does not have to be complicated in any sense of the word, as long as you can handle speaking and presenting and sharing those videos with the world.

Review of Sprout Builder

When Sprout Builder was first released in beta, this drag and drop Flash authoring widget building environment was immediately on fire. Although there was not much wrong with the original Sprout Builder, they have recently released a much more sophisticated version of their flash building services today. The new Software Development Kit in conjunction with authoring controls have seen a large amount of improvement, offering an excellent taste of the kind of extended functionality that users are now going to be able to take advantage of.

One of the new additions to the Sprout Builder service and its Software Development Kit includes full integration with Brightcove, Twitter, Seesmic and numerous other web services directly into the widgets that users create. The Software Development Kit or SDK has been slowly opening up to add additional support for as many services and developers could possibly imagine. There are also numerous additional authoring controls that are definitely worth noting the appearance of:

If you tried Sprout Builder in the past then you probably noticed that its first official launch had a few small kinks, but new improvements have cast these kinks out and turned Sprout Builder’s authoring controls into a much more fluid system.

- Page History –

Each and every page in the authoring space for a Sprout widget displays the last twenty editing actions that you took there, meaning that you can revert back, so taking bigger risks is possible without fear.

- Effects –

Elements can easily be set to flash at hover, to slide in at the loading of a page, or to perform a wide variety of other interesting effects. This is a simple enough matter that allows for authors of widgets to add some truly helpful finesse to the widgets that they create.

- Text Control –

Displaying RSS feeds has become one of the handiest possible ways to turn Sprouts into dynamic widgets. The text output in previous incarnations of the Sprouts utility was ugly and incapable of being changed but this is no longer the case. Now Sprout is a great deal more usable in terms of being a production level utility.

The launch of the Sprout Builder SDK platform has brought on a lot of extra potential. The SDK tool already packs a giant punch in terms of potential and productivity. By opening it up to outside developers, Sprout Builder is allowing outside developers to come in and greatly amplify the impact of the utility for added benefits.

The capabilities of the Software Developer Kit are growing increasingly sophisticated as time goes by, offering additional integration support at a rather consistent pace. All kinds of additional integrations will be offered in the coming months, including Seesmic integration that can handle recording videos straight to Seesmic from a Sprout rather than simply viewing videos, and Ribbit Click to Call which couldn’t be easier to utilize and has recently been taken live.

8 Key Ways to Advance your Corporate Blogging Effort

Blogs are mushrooming at the speed of light in this day and age. For this reason, creating a blogging effort for your company can be extremely profitable and rewarding for your company. There is no real start up fees or set up fees that are needed, and starting a blog is quick and easy in most cases with so many free templates and ideas out there. The real key to creating a corporate blog and advancing your corporate blog effort is marketing your blog well, increasing your reader base consistently and effectively so that marketing your products, services and company will allow you to reach out to a large number of people all at once. Here are 8 key ways to create and advance a corporate blogging effort.

1 – The first step is simply to get started.

If you have no place to start, choose a free blog hosting service and begin there. Free blogging services are not the most ideal destinations for corporate blogs, but they do provide a sturdy foundation from which to build your corporate blog if you are just getting started.

2 – Choose a topic of focus that you are interested in, that you know about, and that you can write passionately on.

The topic that you choose is going to influence the keywords that you focus on, which will influence how search engines and searchers will find you on the internet.

3 – Update your blog every single day in order to make sure that search engine spiders and crawlers are constantly on the look out for your blog and its newest information.

Blogs that are updated daily are much more appealing to most readers, as they show that you are serious about the endeavor. If you do not update often enough, your blog will simply fall off the radar.

4 – In order to make a profit from your blog, you need to be able to generate a strong and powerful reader base as early as possible.

If you do not have enough people reading your blog, most advertisers will not want to work with you. Market your blog through every possible method to gain link popularity and a higher page rank for an increase in readership and advertising opportunities.

5 – Make sure that you are making an effort to keep track of site traffic.

This way you can determine your popularity online rather than giving up on your marketing effort. Analyze your traffic and you will better understand your strong points and your weak points.

6 – Do all that you can to gain an insight over what keywords are being searched for, and how people are or are not finding your blog.

Utilize your keywords right and you will have people coming back for more.

7 – Make your online presence even stronger by managing a network of sites or blogs on the same subject, but with different content.

8 – With each blog that you create, use a topic that will allow you to connect to your audience.

Keep your content short, easy to read and interesting and you will have an easier time interacting with your audience.

Executive Blogging – Good Idea or Bad?

It is obvious that the concept of executive blogging is becoming more popular, as businesses small and large are suddenly turning to blogging as a way to convey news and information to their customers and clients. Still, many companies are wondering if executive blogging is a worthwhile endeavor for them to invest themselves into, especially because it can take some time and effort to get the blogging process started. If you are wondering if executive blogging is a good idea or a bad idea, keep reading, and you may get a much better feel for what makes corporate blogging so advantageous to so many companies. In fact, most people would be hard pressed to name a reason against executive blogging, considering how many benefits are associated with it.

In our new and changing marketplaces, it is becoming absolutely crucial for companies to build relationships with customers that are long and lasting. In order for a relationship to bloom, it needs to incorporate healthy communication and trust between both parties. There are many different ways that a company or a brand can communicate with its customers such as advertising through the television, through print, through radio, billboards, websites, newsletters, banner advertising and so much more. Unfortunately, most of these methods of advertising and marketing are impersonal, and they focus on making a sale rather than really reaching out to the readers and the viewers in order to create a strong and lasting relationship.

Most customers do not really mind getting information and news about a company, but they do not generally enjoy having their privacy invaded through marketing gimmicks on a constant basis. Reaching out to customers in other ways is generally more advantageous because it allows you to build powerful relationships with your customers past, present and future. Customers can go through your blog on their own time and at their own level of convenience. They can subscribe to your blog’s RSS feed, can leave comments and feedback, and can interact with you through your blog in a variety of different ways. In other words, by blogging, you can create lasting relationships that facilitate good communication between your company and your customers.

A business blog or corporate blog can service as a nicely non intrusive way for you to build and facilitate healthy two way communication with your customers over a long period of time. This is really easy to achieve, and involves creating plenty of resourceful and useful content keeping customers and other readers coming back for more. Some of the information that you can provide in your blog may include statistics, trends, tips, tools, guides, expert views, interviews and how-to advice relating to your company, industry or products.

With a corporate blog, you can build a large and consistently growing community of loyal readers that you can specifically target whenever you introduce new products or services, without having to pitch marketing campaigns to them. In other words, to answer the question of whether executive blogging is good or bad, the answer is a resounding “Good”!

Make Blogging Work for Your Business pt 1

miw1Are you ready to make blogging work for your business? If you already know the benefits associated with corporate blogging, then the next step is to put these concepts to work by creating your own corporate blog and sharing your company with the world. This is part 1 in a short series on tips for making blogging work for you.

1 – The first step is to find your domain name.

If you already have a website for your business, then the most advantageous option may be to attach your blog in some way to your normal business site. The next best thing would be to own the domain name that is most descriptive of your business when creating your blog. Either use your business name for your blog name, or your own name, so that you can help people link you and your blog with the company that you are intending to represent. Some of the most well known domain name registrars are GoDaddy, MyDomain, Register, PacNames and DotCalmDomains.

2 – Figure out which blogging tool or blogging platform is going to work best for you.

There are at least two different camps to consider when it comes to tools. The first is those who prefer self hosted blogs, and the second is those who prefer hosting tools. Where do you feel most comfortable? The decision is ultimately up to you but there are pros and cons associated with both options. Some of the options available to you are easily customizable hosted options like TypePad offered by SixApart, or Movable Type which offers more control than TypePad. If you want to host your own blog, WordPress may be more your style, as it offers a lot of customization and control and you can host it a lot more efficiently by yourself.

3 – Talk about yourself so your readers can get to know you.

Most blog templates have an “About” function. Use this wisely so that you may capture the true essence of who you are and what you are hoping to accomplish with your blog. You should aim to strike an excellent balance between human voice and “business speak” to show your readers that you mean business, but are just a passionate human being at the core.

4 – Register your blog and start spreading the word about your endeavor.

Get comfortable with your blog before you start speaking out about it. Once you have some content, and perhaps even a reader or two, you can start spreading the word about your blog. Register your blog at FeedBurner, available at http://www.feedburner.com so that you can provide RSS and e-mail feeds that people can use to gain access to your content. Technorati, at http://www.technorati.com is another excellent option as well as it will allow you to associate tags with your blog for better “findability”.

5 – Create a resource section or a blog roll to show your customers what you enjoy reading, or what resources you often visit.

Blog rolls are generous in two different ways, as not only do they allow people who you link to to find your blog, but they also help readers expand their knowledge by checking out the blogs that you recommend.

Starwood Hotels Blog Review

captureThis is a review of The Lobby, a blog by the Starwood Hotel company.

The first thing that you notice upon arriving to this blog is that it is visually appealing, and this company has clearly captured a good look and is running with it. The Lobby is a blog that is devoted to the preferred guest loyalty program that Starwood Hotel offers. There are two different ways to focus on the blog content is this specific instance, with the first being on the customers that the program is aiming to reach out to, and the second being focusing on the program itself.

This blog is a rich content environment, with blog posts on a wide variety of subjects including local attractions that locals can experience all over the globe. This blog also gives advice not only on popular dining spots, but also offbeat attractions in many local spots as well. The blog also brings promotions into the mix by talking about some of the specials that are run at hotels operated by the company. This is all content that people will be interested in reading in because it will help them plan their next trip or vacation.

As a whole, this is a pretty solid blog that is devoted to popular destinations, though there are some suggestions that can be made. By looking at this blog and then paying particular attention to the suggestions, you can learn a thing or two about your own blogging effort.

- It would be nice to see more how to and tips articles, such as ‘what to pack when traveling to …” or “Preparations to make before visiting …” with some of the most popular destinations in mind. There are some posts like this, but more just like them would be preferred.

- Despite being a blog that is rich in content, there are no real comments to speak of. This means that the bloggers with this particular blog need to spend more time interacting with their visitors. For example, Starwood would benefit from joining and utilizing Twitter, which they currently do not do.

- Another thing worth noting is the posting schedule. This blog is putting out between 3 and 5 posts every weekday, and that is a lot to contend with. As nice as this blog can be to read, they seem to be putting out too many posts, because unless readers are coming every day or several times daily, they are likely missing a lot of the content because it’s being bumped onto the next page. Posting only once a day is usually more than enough when it comes to posting in a blog.

Overall, the Lobby is a better than average blogging effort with a great deal of potential. In terms of Content, The Lobby by Starwood is worth a 4 out of a possible 5. As for comments, the Starwood blog is worth a 1.5 out of a possible 10. Based on posting schedule, Starwood’s blog is worth a 10 out of a possible 15. As for sidebars, a 11 out of a possible of 15 seems sufficient. This leaves the Starwood “The Lobby” blog with a fairly respectable 53 out of a possible 100, and with some room for improvement.

Boost Your Income with Blog Secrets

20sIf you have a blog, then you are already on the right track to boosting the income of your business. Blogs are incredibly useful for people who are looking to make money online, either as self employed individuals, business owners, or anyone who is just looking to make cash online. Blogs can help businesses build up their careers in quick and easy ways, eliminating years worth of frustration in many cases. Blogs are, simply put, tools for instant publication. Blogs do not have to be online journals, as there is so much more than you can do with them. So when you hear the word ‘blog’ you should be thinking ‘instant publication’ above all else.

Here are some ways that you can boost your income by writing in a corporate blog or business blog online:

1 – More blogs and more blog entries leads to more money.

You can have multiple blogs, especially if each of your blogs has a different purpose. Look at the Microsoft blogging network for example. Every blog has a unique writer and a unique purpose. Just keep in mind that blogs take a while to develop readership. Create one blog, develop it for a while, then create another blog and develop it independently of the first for more sales and business.

2 – Use your blogs and your blog entries to sell yourself, and to sell your products and the services that you offer.

Your blog will be what allows you to become more visible online. It will literally be the premier tool that helps you to build a name online. Create articles and other helpful content for your blog, and your readers will begin to regard you as an expert on the subject that you’re selling. The more information that you provide, the more advantageous your blog will become, because your readers will respect you and will want to buy from you.

3 – Every blog post should be regarded as an advertisement for you and your company.

Every single blog that you write in, and every single blog post that you write for these blogs should be an advertisement for you, even when you’re not directly selling a product or a service. If you want to build credibility and really sell yourself online, blogging is the tool that can make this happen. These blogs show your readers that you are an expert, and readers want to hire experts and buy products from experts, so if you show that you know your stuff within your industry, your blog will be what convinces customers to purchase from you.

Blogging is an enormously important way to reach out to new readers and to attract new customers because it allows you to establish yourself as an expert in your field or industry, and it allows you to indirectly sell your products or services for an increase in business.
